So what law was broken.  There is a US Code citation for all crimes.  Which Code number covers this one?

And, among other things, it says,
"§30121. Contributions and donations by foreign nationals
(a) Prohibition
It shall be unlawful for-
(1) a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make-
(A) a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election;
(B) a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party; or
(C) an expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication (within the meaning of section 30104(f)(3) of this title); or

(2) a person to solicit, accept, or receive a contribution or donation described in subparagraph (A) or (B) of paragraph (1) from a foreign national."
There's more. Sorry to go all "imppostor" on your ass but you really need to learn the old phrase, "Be careful what you ask for because you might just get it."
I now look forward to a weaselly post from you trying to explain why this does not apply.

Did you read the article (written by a lawyer and former FBI counterintelligence officer)?
.
"The White House was attempting to employ an illegal, covert propaganda operation against the American public.  This is explicitly against the law. The 1991 Intelligence Authorization Act prohibits the U.S. government from using covert actions — which include propaganda — to “influence United States political processes, public opinion, policies, or media.”"
.
S.1325 - Intelligence Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 1991, 102nd Congress (1991-1992). That bill amends several Chapters/Titles of the US Code as described therein.

This section is about direct contributions or donations of MONEY.  Are you contending that Trump asked Ukraine for a donation to his presidential campaign.  Or is this the usual post of yours where you are trying to stretch the law to cover something it wasn't meant to cover.  One thing that can give you guidance when it comes to the law is to read the Congressional record at the time the law was being debated in the house and find out what the Legislative Intent of the law was at the time it was voted into law.

The statute CLEARLY says NOT just MONEY but "or other thing of value." If you don't think a court would agree that soliciting an investigation that would damage your principal rival is "a thing of value" you are delusional. Or, most likely, just a hack.
In a further amendment, the statute reads: "It shall be unlawful for a foreign national directly or through any other person to make any contribution of money or other thing of value, or to promise expressly or impliedly to make any such contribution, in connection with an election to any political office or in connection with any primary election, convention, or caucus held to select candidates for any political office; or for any person to solicit, accept, or receive any such contribution from a foreign national."
Case closed.
