How come they massed all their fleet carriers to attack Pearl? They had learned the lesson of Taranto. Also, by cancelling their third wave they failed to hit the fuel dumps at Pearl. Combined with missing the carriers, it sealed their fate. Pearl Harbor was not the great success most think it was.

In addition to not taking out the fuel, as you state, with the lack of a third wave, the Japs failed to destroy the dry docks, which would have caused us to drag the damaged ships all the way to the U.S. west coast, obviously adding greatly to their repair time.
They were obsessed with taking out the battle ships and that obsession cost them dearly with other high value targets that went unscathed
