After all men made it a sin in Christianity. Many Asian religion don't look at the same way. Hinduism actually had Devadasis (another name) based in temples for ordinary people and in palaces for the rich.

Buddhism follows the same. Only in Christianity and Islam it viewed as sin and both persecute the women and not men. Hypocrisy at its best.

Don't forget, only recently have  women stopped being viewed as property in western society and even here, many religions teach that men are the lords and masters.  Women are excluded from full participation in cathoicism, Orthodox judism and southern baptists teach that the wife must obey her husband in all things.  There are many more examples.  And the there is Islam - - -.
I think that much of the taboo on sex stems from men's fear of their true equality.

Just my observation. But some of the harshest  views on prostitution come from women. And at times from women who trumpet feminism. In my opinion the best example of a feminist is an escort. Independent, opinionated, sexy, hard working, self sufficient, etc.

Yes I agree with your post, especially about Islam.  Unfortunately the culture of many middle eastern (Muslim) countries really appears to suppress sexuality too much--much more so than even conservative parts of the US.  In fact I heard a very interesting theory from a French psychologist studying suicide bombers and suggesting that sexual repression in that part of the world leads to this sort of religious hysteria.  My blasphemous solution--they should have a few Hooters in and around Mecca & other holy cities and some T&A Clubs also!  How do like them apples?

Religion was created so that those at the top of the religious hierarchy can monopolize all of the good pussy.

There are some very rigidly patriarchical societies in Asia. I would bet the hypocrisy is spread around evenly worldwide.

How does Christianity and Islam persecute men and not women?  Both religions view fornication as a sin in which both participants are equally sinful.  Sounds like you're taking ques from...shit - where ARE you getting this?

Before you think that Buddhism is so good on women's issues, consider this, an admittedly simple summary, but accurate nonetheless.

There have been several Buddahs in history.  Becoming a Buddah is the process of multiple reincarnations, getting higher and higher, and better and better.

The better you are in this life, the better your reward in the next, as reflected in the way that you come back.

Those who have achieved the highest status, reflecting a reward for their exemplary past lives, are always returned as males from wealthy families without physical flaws in the form of handicaps.  I.e., the best people are wealthy and healthy rich males.

That creates a lot of punch lines, which I will avoid.

But remember, women are lesser than men in your wonderful world of Buddah.

The book version you read states so. There are many versions of buddhism. I assume, you are talking about Tibetan buddhism, that is more popular in the US because of all the publicity Tibet and Dalai Lama gets.

Sub groups and cult following is the crux of the problem.
