I may be wrong, but I could have sworn that someone repeatedly said that if you like your current health care plan he would not propose any legislation and there was nothing in the legislation proposed that would require people to change that plan.

But somehow I got a letter from my insurance company informing of changes mandated by the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act."  

The new changes are things that have to make it more expensive, like eliminating lifetime limits or annual limits on essential benefits.  

It the policy now provides more it is obvious it has to be more expensive.

Is it possible that Obama was also in that group who had no idea what was in the legislation and couldn't know until they passed it?

Nationalize all Insurance companies like India did 35 years ago.   Make it a right of every citizen to get health care and prescription drug benefits.   Use premium and invest in infrastructure projects unlike the private companies who bet all the money in wall street.  This is an area too manipulative to be left to for profit corporations.   Look what the mortgage companies did without any control or oversight?   Hey you hapless tax payers had to bail them out, thanks to Bush (AIG, Bear Stearns, etc.,).   If you are not surprised yet, wait for the banks to go belly up with their mounting credit card debt and worthless home equity loans.   It is coming soon and the new Congress (GOP & Tea Party controlled) will have to bail out their buddies using tax payer dollars.

If India were so great, there wouldn't be millions of people from India HERE on H1-B and L-1 Visas.

Yesterday, I was sitting in HR benefit presentation by our HR VP and we are talking about lifetime maximums. He said that we have an team member and his prescription cost is $5,800/month = ~$69k. I don't know how old or who this person. When will he reach his limit?

By the way our cost increase per month is less than a dollar. There are many things companies can do to keep their costs low and the cost will decrease over time or rate increase will slow down. Most of it won't be felt only in 2014 and beyond

Many US Citizens that know about the medical care does go to India for many surgeries including Open Heart and for removing brain tumors, etc., because they can't afford even the deductible of their insurance or don't want to spend obscene amount of money.

If I bought a 1 million dollar limit it cost less than 2 million dollar limit because the company had to pay less.  If I had a one million and suddenly the company is told that they have to pay what ever it costs for forever, they have to raise their rents.  It would be like going to a cafe, getting a cup of soup for $5, and then asking for salad, entre, drink, and pie.

It has to cost more because the are giving more.

An illness can cost 10 million dollars.  Now that they have to provide a $10 million dollar policy to everyone, what will that do to price.

If the hike is too much, the state may cut it down. However, if the company can justify it by saying they are providing for greater coverage, they will be entitle to more.

It is clear that some hike will be needed because they just increased greater costs.

I say charge fat people more for their coverage. Premium should be based on height, weight and age ratio and premiums should go up as the weight goes up.

I agree that things like obescity and health problems are contributing.  Also, improvements are adding to cost.  (In the old days you got a cane. Now you get a new hip.  I grew up in doctors' offices when they had a stethescope and a black bag.  Now it is computers and equipment that cost tens of thousands of dollars.)

Also, I know that the increase in expenses to the company isn't "suddenly" as in today they hand over 10 million to everyone. I was writing quickly and sometimes we do that losely.  However, they have just increased their exposure to that amout on every policy. They based it on the fact that they had an exposure of limited amount, and were limited in what they would have to pay.  Now, they have to have unlimited coverage on alll policies.  Eventually, many policies will demand huge amounts beyond what the originally agreed to. The same is true for yearly limits.  

In CA you can insure your car for a minimum coverage of 30K.  It tomorrow the state said, "No policy can have a limit, and everyone who bought a policy for 30K, 50K, 100K, or 200K is entilted to unlimited, the company would have to increase costs.  It is true that not everyone will get into an accident, but the calculations were based on a certain percent.

The same is true for health care. Eventually, many insured will get sick. If they have to cover ten times as much for 40%, even though it may be in 10 years, they have to charge more for that increased coverage.

(I agree that charging fat people more is okay.  They charge smokers more. Race car drivers don't get regular insurance.)


However, are you telling me that an increase in coverage from a limited amount to unlimited won't affect long term costs?

Having been to India many times while flying, and now having 3 flight students that are from there, I can say that they tell a much different tale than you are telling, about medical care in India. In addition, these are young students from very wealthy families. Otherwise, how do you think they can afford to come here for flight training, for 9-12 months? There's the 1% that get good medical care, and the 99% that are still pissing in their drinking water due to lack of any semblance of rudimentary hygiene.

You don't even use the current map. Look at the current map. Most of the countries you call filthy is looted by the so called clean western countries. Before looting, and cheating Native Americans, Asia and Africa, Europeans were filthy.
