men like Mattis allow them to be openly stupid

It's now become apparent that the U.S. has been placed on the back burner with regard to discussions on ceasefires or solutions of the civil war in Syria. The new "powers" are Russia, Turkey, and Iran whose foreign ministers met in Moscow last weeks for talks. How far have we fallen? Who's to blame? I really think we have to accept that Obama's foreign policy has been sadly deficient. Too often he jumped on board those seemingly popular movements like Libya and the rest of the Arab spring without really understanding the consequences. It's one thing to want to be liked; it's another to be respected. And so now Trump inherits this mess. Will he be able to much of anything? I don't think so. I'm afraid we're in for that proverbial "long, hard winter".

i think we should bomb the shit out of them..oh wait..they already have..

...how long here. Obama is a nice guy-n-all and I'd love to share a joint with him exchanging our views on the world-n-shit but he was never much of a presidential material.

Well spoken, good looking and well intentioned all right but not too deep in thinking and is always too quick to react. His good intentions brought a lot of misery to way too many people, especially in the Middle East, and total loss of face for himself. I mean, look at the way he is calling Trump all the time trying to "advise" him on this and that but in reality scrambling to preserve whatever legacy he can besides being a "first black president". And then this parting travesty at the UN. Threw all of his allies under the bus: Mubarak, Israelis. Chinese tell him to go and get his own red carpet treatment (and then apologize on the page 572), Castro doesn't even bother to meet him at the airport. First Obama lets Iranians know that he'd be open to a phone call from their president but then gets too impatient and calls himself. I just can see Iranian president who is a shark of a politician himself shaking his head in dismay. Even Filipino president practically tells Obama to fuck off for God's sake (huh?).

And then this belated "outrage" about Russia. Where were you when the campaign was still going on dude? Do you know what Putin is gonna do in response to new American threats and "sanctions"? Nothing. Putin only reacts to those that matter. Russians will threaten to do this and that and that's all they'd remain: threats. Did you see how Trump is making point now to let everybody know that it's the president that calls president-elect and not other way around? Sad.

I'm paraphrasing CENZ01's and your characterizations. Have either of you considered the possibility that the present position in which the U.S. finds itself is pretty much where Obama wanted it to be?

........and Obama had to clean up. Democratic Presidents over the years seem to have done a mighty fine job cleaning up the messes Republican Presidents have left behind.

....to a tee, a completely clueless, lying bumfuck. For the record, I find Bush II to be a million times more qualified for POTUS than Trump. Obama's main problem all along has been trying to bring about consensus on every foreign/domestic policy issue he has encountered. This has been particularly disastrous in the way he handled Obamacare, global  free trade agreements, Syria, Gitmo closure etc. While trying to create policies that satisfy both sides, he ended up pleasing no one, which is certainly not the way to govern in highly political partisan Washington.

...Muslims killing each other in a civil war.  Yet when you ask them how many Syrian refugees they want to allow in to America, they say: "ZERO!"

the 'red line'....a major part of the incompetent, ego centric guy masquerading as a US Prez, legacy. doubt he gives a s*** as long as he  treated as a king.

Typical lefty thinking. There is always only one solution to a problem.  When you see a homeless person, do you give them a buck or invite them to live in your spare room?  Yeah. Thought not.

It's certainly America's FP.

I'd like to hear what the world's opinion is.

He acts like an offended child who didn't get his candy and now is lashing out at everybody, painting graffiti on daddy's fence, breaking mommy's tea kettle and the like.

The truth is that that's more or less the way he acted all of his presidency. The enlightened crowed mused at his good intention feeling good about their support for the "first black president" while his colleagues bristle behind his back at his amateurishness and fecklessness. And people in places where his good intentions ignited wars (I will list them if anybody challenges me on that) want to cut his throat.

I will make this prediction. Now, since the irritating factor and the element of uncertainty (i.e. Obama & Kerry) that's been muddling waters would no longer be there, peace will quickly come to Syria and some refugees may even begin coming back. Two-three years from now Assad will resign and move to Paris.

We'll see how savvy Trump is when he reacts to Putin's invitation to participate in Syria peace process. If he agrees not that savvy. If he politely declines saying things like: "let Vladimir handle this" then this will significantly diminish my worrying about his "chasing the shinny object"-issues and I may even start to believe that there maybe a chance of a peace on grand scale being made in the Middle East after all
