"The tally of coronavirus deaths in the U.S. has surpassed 100,000.

Just over four months after the government confirmed the first known case, more than 100,000 people who had the coronavirus have died in the United States, according to a New York Times tally.
The death toll is far higher than in any other nation in the world.

The toll exceeds the number of U.S. military combat fatalities in every conflict since the Korean War. It matches the toll in the United States of the 1968 flu pandemic, and it is approaching the 116,000 killed in another flu outbreak a decade before that.
The pandemic is on track to be the country’s deadliest public health disaster since the 1918 flu pandemic, in which about 675,000 Americans died.
As the nation neared the devastating milestone, President Trump flew to Florida on Wednesday in the hopes of watching the first launch of NASA astronauts into orbit from the United States in nearly a decade. But threatening weather led the launch to be postponed until Saturday at the earliest.
Though the numbers of new cases and deaths have begun trending downward, health experts warn of a possible resurgence as lockdowns are lifted.
More than 1.6 million people in the country have been infected. Hard-hit northeastern states have reported decreases in new cases in recent days, and the pace of deaths nationwide has fallen.
The daily death toll in New York, the hardest-hit state, fell this week to levels not seen since March.
But persistently high numbers of cases remain in a number of cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles. Cases have been rising in Arkansas, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
Most statisticians and public health experts, including Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, say the death toll is probably far higher than official counts. People who haven’t been tested are dying at home and at nursing homes, and early this year some coronavirus deaths were probably misidentified.
The Times counted cases and deaths that have been identified by officials as probable coronavirus patients. Many states and counties only count cases and deaths in which an infection was confirmed through testing.
Because confirmed cases are widely considered to be an undercount of the true toll, some state and local governments have started identifying probable cases and deaths.
The milestone comes amid debate over the timeliness of the nation’s response to the pandemic, with one Columbia University model showing that about 36,000 fewer people would have died if the United States had imposed social-distancing measures earlier."

that the CDC can't be trusted because they have been inflating the number of cases and the number of deaths by 25-35%.  That means its probably not 100,000 yet.  Thought you'd like to know.

Usually you are TOTALLY full of shit. You're right the CDC can't be trusted. But not because the number of cases has been inflated. In fact, the number of cases is more likely much higher than they say because of the screwed-up ways COVID cases and deaths are being reported.
But the CDC has screwed up SO much during this pandemic it desperately needs a TOTAL revamp, starting with Redfield. He needs to go.

3 weeks ago you said it was time to let nature run its course and if that resulted in 1% of the country dying, so be it.  So it escapes me why it matters to you whether its 75k or 100k when 3 million is perfectly acceptable to you..  Oh, I forgot, you proudly got back from your taxpayer subsidized trip to Hawaii.  So maybe if we keep downplaying what's going on, this will painfully drag out longer and you'll have another chance or two to suckle at the tit of more government stimulus.

While everyone else mourns the catastrophic loss of life and damage to the livelihoods of so many others, I'm asking all of you who support this administration how are you okay with this?  We went to war over 4000 dead on 9/11.  Economy aside, this has been 25x worse.  And does anyone doubt we'll be at 150k by end of summer??  The delays and lack of coherent strategy have led to tens of thousands of avoidable deaths and tens of millions of avoidable job losses.  Fun fact, Germany has only lost about 200K jobs through all of this.

Were your tax cuts worth it?  The conservative judges that any other republican candidate would have nominated?  Instead of looking the other way, how are you not screaming for your guy to just do the things all the other advanced countries in the world have done to control this?  If he did, he'd beat Biden in a landslide.  How are you all okay with there being no national strategy to prepare for the surge in cases in the fall?  Because without one, we're looking at having a problem that will be worse.

I doubt any of you will answer honestly, and fully expect some more gratuitous name calling.  But maybe you'll surprise me.

But lets not pretend you and others aren't using the "milestone" for political reasons either.

Do you think CNN gives a shit about the 100k that died? GigglingCooper over there did a special on the 100k dead and blamed Trump for the ENTIRE hour. No mention I saw ANYWHERE how the lib govs in NJ, NY, PAT etc were incredibly stupid sending sick people back to nursing homes. Nada.

This is ALL about politics. Its the same reason the Left wont talk about black on black crime. No political hay there to make.

It's called "Blame The Governors." It's never his fault.
Then look at the numbers for places like Germany and South Korea. Then you'll see what Trump's ineptitude has cost us.

eh Hack?  Who could take a non-partisan issue, extract just a thread of impropriety in it and falsely malign it as if it was on par with one of the seven deadly sins, better than you Hack?  Answer:  just one or two other brainless Trumpty dumpty TER supporters, or Trumpty dumpty, himself.

After all, you are simply being true to your name, aren't you HACK.  Of course Hack probably is NOT your real name, but am betting you are every bit as much of a Hack in your real life as you are here.  And Hack, you TRULY are just a Hack, and not a very good one.  We of sound mind can see right through you and every lie you post on here!

Wow Jack...of anyone here you have been THE biggest cheerleader for how the this administration has handled this.  How many times have you made cherry picked comparisons?  How many times have you said "Hey...compared to everyone else in Western Europe we're amazing!"  Of anyone on the entire board...you have been THE MOST okay with it.  Though...I remember a post of yours when you said you would be critical if things called for it.  Well here is your chance.  Are you now willing to admit that the Trump lead response has been a clusterfuck that's led to unnecessarily catastrophic human and economic cost?

Sorry but its been YOU and the other lefties that cherry picked. I compared to the U.S. to the five largest Western Euro countries from day one and did NOT waiver in my comparisons like you guys have.

I have always said Germany was doing better than the U.S. but we have done MUCH better than the UK, France, Spain and Italy.

I would be very critical of Trump if I found out he did not listen to Fauci and Birx in Feb and March but both have said he listened to their counsel. Those were the experts. Liberals agreed and praised both.

So please point out to me where he tossed their advice aside.

Now what about YOU? MONTHS ago, YOU told us "just wait a week or two Jack" when comparing the U.S. to those western euro countries. Well, we waited, and here we are and the U.S. is STILL doing MUCH better than those other four.

Mea culpa time for you, correct?

for Hack's canned "I know you are but what am I," reply.  Hack has been hanging around another, far right, radical extremist, with strong middle school leanings way too long.  Not surprising when he often sounds like him.

Am going to track your posts and see how patient you are.  Am wondering just how many honest, objective, and factual posts you are willing to share with Hack, before you realize he will never come clean.  Hack will lie, deflect, conflate, and feign being offended, but he will NEVER admit the truth, if it that facts reflect unfavorably on Trumpty dumpty.

At some point, you will wonder if he lacks the intellect to know he is blindly embracing lies as his own truth.  Or, you will learn, Hack does know better but shares the same lack of core values, Trumpty dumpty possesses and is just embarrassed to admit how morally bankrupt they both are.

No Jack, the only person who has maintained that Western Europe is the standard we need to be compared to is you.  Just you.  My position has always been that the standard we should be compared to are countries who were able to properly implement well known strategies to deal with infectious disease epidemics.  Namely early and aggressively increasing testing, tracing, and ability to quarantine.  As well as securing PPE, needed medical supplies and increasing surge capacity of their medical infrastructure.

Which means we should be comparing ourselves to Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Hong, and Japan.  And for those of you need predominately white countries, throw in Germany, New Zealand, and Australia.

YOU are the one who continues to ignore those countries, and props us up against other countries who have similarly failed.  All the countries who failed to implement proper strategy have had terrible results.  What an amazing trend you discovered!  Hey look...Brazil's president has essentially refused to mount any sort of national response, and guess what's happening there.

The only reason to humor your Western Europe comparison is to illustrate how little you know about this subject.  On April 1st, we had 1/25 the per/capita deaths of Italy.  8.7/million vs 206/million.  And my point has always been, given what we are doing, we are going to look just as bad.  Two months later, that ratio is down to about half 1/2 (309/million vs 549/million).  Meanwhile, they are down to less than 100 deaths/day while we're still adding close to 1000/day (with 1/3 the states having record increases in cases).   You have been wrong about this from the start, but there's no sense in expecting you to admit it.

The only mea cupla that's owed is you recognizing how little you understand about this topic.

I asked for some examples of Trump not heeding Fauci and Birx and you came back with a grand total of...ZERO. I will give you credit since you couldn't come up with any so at least you didnt try and lie...you just ignored it. LOL

And are you telling me it WASNT you who said just wait a week or two a few months back and the U.S. numbers would look bad compared to Western Euro????? Gee, you dodged THAT ONE too. Wonder why?

I cant say I blame you as only lefties like Mari, and maybe Hyper, can ever admit they were wrong to a righty. But I would think with all your experience getting housed in this debate by me you would have learned. Guess not. LOL

And gotcha. Throw in a Wester Euro country (Germany) to move the goal posts but EXCLUDE the UK, France, Spain and Italy. No, no cherry picking at all by you. :D :D

Seriously, this is like trying to discuss something with a 4 year old who puts his fingers in his ears and just screams.  I actually held out hope that you would see that things played out exactly as predicted and actually learn something.  That the lack of early and decisive action by our country was going to result in unnecessary mortality and economic pain.  I said this back on April 4th when we had 5K deaths and 240K cases.  Today we are at 100K deaths and 1.7M cases with no end in sight.

How has Trump ignored his experts?  Testing.  Fauci from the beginning has pushed and pushed hard for increasing testing and contract tracing and earlier this month on May 8th Trump said that "testing isn't necessary."  It's clear he's largely ignored that.  Masks.  Fauci and Birx have advocated for the widespread use of masks while in public.  Trump ignores this, and continues to set the example that it's not necessary.  So that's more advice he's ignored.  The reopening plan.  Fauci, Birx, and Pence put out a Phase I, II, and III plan for reopening the economy.  All Trump has done is push states to reopen as fast as they can.  Not one time has he tried to hold any state to his own guidelines.  So that's 3 things he's ignored buttercup.  Want some more?

And you're right.  I did say 2 months ago that as time went your comparisons to Western Europe were going to look worse and worse.  I said that in my very first message to you.  And as I just illustrated, they have.  Every week the data  shows that the US is approaching what happened there.  At the beginning of April, we had 1/5th the infections/million than Italy (about 500/M vs 2000/M).  Today we have 60% MORE cases per/million than they do (about 5000/M vs their 3000/M).  You can do same for the rest of the countries.  2 months ago we looked great compared to them, now we are right there with them, just like anyone who understands infectious pandemics would have told you.  And in a few months, or later this fall, we are going to surpass all of them.  Bank on it.

One more time you ignorant fool.  We should be comparing ourselves to the countries to have done the best, who have had the best results.  You are the who arbitrarily picked Italy, France, Spain and the UK to be the benchmarks for success.  They all similarly failed to enact early testing, tracing and quarantine.  And they paid heavy penalties for it.  Why do you think they should be the standard?  THEY should have been the cautionary example of what not to do.  But instead...that's us.

I doubt you will understand...but here's data that illustrates the magnitude of incompetence that our response has been. Below are countries that actually listened early and followed the advice of scientists and public health experts.  And I'm going to list their relative cases and deaths if they had the same population as us, 327M.

                             Total Cases                      Deaths
USA                      1,700,000                         101,000
Germany                717,000                           33,000
South Korea            72,000                              1,700
New Zealand          101,000                             1,500
Australia                 101,000                              1,400
Taiwan                         5,800                                   98

That's right...if we could have been just 10x worse than Taiwan...we would have less than 1000 people dead.  That's what was possible.  Some of those countries already have professional sports back, with fans in stadiums.  Their museums are open, they have nightclubs open.  And they didn't need multi trillion dollar bailouts either.

Jack, I'm not telling you to stop supporting the President.  But seriously...his response to this health emergency has been disastrous.  Our country had 3 extra weeks to see what was going on.  We are the richest, most well resourced, technically and scientifically capable country in the world.  There is no reason why we shouldn't have been showing the world how its done like we have so many other times in modern history.  We should have been right there with Taiwan and South Korea, or at the very least Germany.  But Trump has bungled this.  Tens of thousands of people are dead that shouldn't be.  Trillions of dollars have been vaporized unnecessarily.  For you not to see or understand this is an embarrassment.

I am really trying to figure out if you are THIS stupid or just this dishonest.

I asked you what Trump ignored from his experts and everything you gave me was AFTER the fire was already out of control! You didn't tell me ANYTHING that BEFORE it was too late and that is QUITE telling. You...just...cant...do...it. And I gave you NUMEROUS chances!

Now let me destroy the rest of your idiocy:

1) Here is Fauci SPECIFICALLY mentioning Trump had NOTHING to do with delayed testing:

http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/487985-fauci-neither-trump-nor-cdc-to-blame-for-testing-delay

2) Here is Fauci, as late as  March 8th, saying Americans did NOT need to wear masks:

http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/487985-fauci-neither-trump-nor-cdc-to-blame-for-testing-delay

3) Here is Fauci crediting Trump for China travel ban:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2020/03/12/dr_anthony_fauci_travel_ban_to_china_absolutely_made_a_difference.html

4) Here is Fauci blaming China for the slow response:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2020/04/13/fauci_chinese_misinformation_delayed_us_response_to_coronavirus.html

5) Here is Fauci saying we would have irreparable harm if we are closed down for too long:

https://www.businessinsider.com/anthony-fauci-irreparable-damage-stay-at-home-too-long-2020-5

Now what you should have done is blame the experts. Then your argument would have made more sense but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO you couldn't score any cheap political points that way.

The reality is that Trump DID listen to his experts, something libtards BEGGED him to do, and when he did so, idiots like you trashed him.

Sorry if all these facts got in the way of your TDS. ;)

Still no response to the point by point destruction of your central premise?  Its sad that you just can't acknowledge that in comparison to countries that have shown what is possible, what we've done here is an embarrassment.  And every single day, your ridiculous comparison to France, Spain, Italy and the UK gets even more useless.  So now you're left with slinging poop in hope that something sticks.  Since you have no scientific or epidemiologic point to make, we have the "Trump didn't ignore EVERYTHING Fauci told him and made a few reasonable decisions" defense.  Really?  That's hopelessly pathetic.

It is laughable that all of a sudden, you imply ignoring experts early on is what matters, and that ignoring them later on is fine.  The mental gymnastics and self delusion required for you to say that are really remarkable.  And even though you know Trump will marginalize or fire anyone who disagrees with him publicly, you use their public statements as "proof."  All while ignoring the actual decisions that were made.  Like:

-Disbanding the pandemic response team in 2016
-Eliminating early warning positions in China (including the Wuhan lab) that look for outbreaks
-Disregarding the multiple presidential daily briefings starting this January that warned what was coming
-Getting briefed about it by his own appointees Azar and Navarro on Jan 18 and Jan 29
-Ignoring his CDC officials which forced the director of respiratory diseases at the CDC to tell the public that "disruption to everyday life may be severe" on Feb 25.
-Not making orders for additional PPE until the middle of March
-And so on and so on and so on

And yet you ignore the President's OWN statements that shows his lack of seriousness.  Like:

-"We have it totally under control"  Jan 22.
-"This is a virus that goes away in April as the heat comes in"  Feb 10
-"15 people within a couple of days is going to be down to zero"  Feb 26
-"One day like a miracle it will disappear"  Feb 27
-"Anyone who wants a test can get a test"  Mar 6
-And so on and so on and so on

All of your devotion for what?   At least the professional liars who cover for him on TV are auditioning for, and often get jobs in his campaign/administration.  If being his most loyal defender on this message board does something for you, congratulations.

Watch this.  Fauci was wrong when he said there was no need to wear masks or alter habits.  And I hope he regrets that.  Pelosi was wrong to encourage people to go to Chinatown.  Cuomo has made plenty of mistakes in how he's managed NY.  Gretchen Whitmer bears some responsibility for the confusing policies in her state.  I love the way republican governors Mike DeWine (Ohio) and Larry Hogan (Maryland) have led their states.  And Trump was right to enact travel bans from China and Europe, but I wish they were more comprehensive and enacted earlier.

Instead of mindlessly being a partisan waterboy, try a little independent thought for a change.  But it looks like you're trapped in a bubble of hero worship and can't bring yourself to criticize even the most obvious of mistakes.  Somehow being critical means you aren't supportive.  For you, this isn't about science, or health, or minimizing economic hardship.  It's about rooting for your team no matter what.  All politics all the time.  And for that, I pity you.

scare Hack off.  After a few more posts like this one, Hack will realize you will simply feed his excrement back to him, chapter and verse.  At that point he will panic at having been exposed and stop replying to you completely.

Instead, he will reply to your posts sporadically, in a more indirect way, maybe further down the thread, replying to someone else's reply to you.  Then his girlfriends, Lady GaGa and Cock-Devouring-Liar will steer clear and occasionally follow Hack's pattern.

If you press him enough, he will claim he does not approve of "Trumpty dumpty the person, but approves of his policies," yet will be unable to convince even himself that Trumpty dumpty is anything but an immoral, inept, mindless example of a human being.
