Merriam-Webster, founded 1831, updates its definition of racism because of a 22 year old girl...

...Merriam's current definition of racism is:
"A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race."

The girl posted on Facebook:
"It's not just disliking someone because of their race...This current fight we are in is evidence of that, lives are at stake because of the systems of oppression that go hand-in-hand with racism."

After several emails back and forth between Merriam and the girl, snowflake Merriam caved and agreed to update the definition and to add that racism isn't just ugly feelings or feelings of superiority.  It is a doctrine designed to put those feeling into policy and practice, with the intent of oppressing a group of people.

Too bad it isn't December.  If it was, JackSquat would be chucking his Merriam-Webster dictionary into the fireplace.  Wait, I got it - Liddle Jackie can use the dictionary to light the coals in his barbecue.  He's too cheap to have a propane or natural gas barbecue.

No, he doesn't have a Weber; he has a knock-off.

He's the "Host With The Most." Every red neck in East Atlantic Beach craves an invitation to one of his shindigs.

Aren’t both of these definitions inadequate? If I hate black people, or if I think black people are more likely to be criminals than whites, I am not a “racist” according to these definitions bc I’m not saying whites are superior or trying to oppress blacks.

Or, going back to a discussion I had with St. Croix, if I think black basketball players are superior to whites because of their race, is that a racist thought? According to the MW definition, I am a racist.

What if your personal experience leads you to this conclusion? I happen to believe blacks are better BB players bc of their race from years of playing pick up basketball. Rightly or wrongly, that sure has been my experience. I pick the black guy every time.

Does it matter if you are the same race? If a black man oppresses another black man, is he a racist?

Before we can seriously discuss the need to make reforms in the police system, I think we need a better and broader definition of “racism” than the one this dictionary gives us. At the moment, racism is like porn in the eyes of most people- they know when they see it.

I think you hit the nail dead on. Also, do you extend “racism” to affirmative action programs and the like? This is a very complex issue.

It discriminates against people based SOLELY on ones race. How would that NOT be racist?

Some will argue that it "corrects past wrongs." But you don't correct past racist policies with "new and improved" racist policies because...drumroll please....THAT would be racist too.

And if anyone thinks only whitey is getting fucked on account of it, how many Asian-Americans get shoved aside to benefit other races because of it i.e. college/university acceptance?

We were the oppressed, but because we are either smarter or we work harder we are being punished in a misguided effort to "balance the scales",

Of course idiots like GG think Asians should pony up right along with the stupid white people to make up for past sins we had NOTHING to do with.

You are fucking A right Affirmative Action is racist.

USA system they have the liabilities to stolen slave labor.
Whether they oppressed anyone or not is irrelevant! Oppression was the means to the loot! If you benefit from the loot you are liable!
It is the white law in every other stealing!
