So where do the Dems go from here?

Republicans have their greatest majorities of all government since 1928. This is a historically bad time for Dems.

So what would you do to rebuild them?  

What do they need to build back their numbers?

Good question(s) and something I have given a great amount of thought.

To be honest, the last few weeks have been difficult. It is hard for me to realize that we lost to someone like Donald Trump. The Democratic Party is a proud and a resilient group so better days are ahead. There are several things I would do, and the sooner the better.

a) Ms. Pelosi needs to go. Mr Ryan has much more in common with the blue collar, middle class voter and we need newer, younger leadership so we can reach out to a constituency that should be voting in droves for us.

b) I think identity politics needs to scaled back a bit. We don't need to mention women, blacks, hispanics, by name etc. They are not monolithic groups. Our policies should do the talking for themselves and those groups should rush to our party because it benefits them to do so. Maybe we took them for granted?

c) we have become a regional party. We have both coasts on lock down but very little everywhere else. We need to make in roads in the south and take back the upper mid-west. Our message needs to be more inclusive and our message more positive.

d) we have to find a way to speak to white voters without alienating minorities. That is easier said then done. Last Sunday, Chuck Todd went into a county in Michigan that Mr. Obama won twice but Mrs. Clinton lost, and spoke with those voters. They feel like the Democratic Party has abandoned them. I would like to see us do a massive study as to why they feel this way.  

e) the DNC needs to be completely overhauled. Mr Sanders quite possibly was robbed by the DNC. Too many people now think it has been corrupted and I can't argue with them anymore.

I think my party has to look inward. We cant blame Trump for our party's demise. It will take a lot of money, time and effort. We can't change fundamentally who we are, but we need to retrace our steps and see why our message is not getting through. I feel when properly explained, the Democratic Party is the party of choice of most voters, and the popular vote wins by Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Gore, along with the popular and electoral wins twice each by Mr Obama and Mr Clinton would bear that out.

His last post here was on 11-2, several days before the election. Maybe a little birdie told him it was time to get out of Dodge while the getting was good? lol

But his absence leaves a huge vacuum to fill. BFRG was a bigger favorite for SPOTY than Hillary was for POTUS, now that he's gone, and the rules do say you have to be an active poster all the way through the end of the year, who is the new SPOTY frontrunner? It looks like a wide open race to me.

well first of all the dems have always had the numbers, and probably always will

They just can't get their numbers to get out and vote, dems are well known to not show up and vote.  

A very real reason that Obama won both times he ran is because he was able to convince people to get registered and vote. And if Hillary Clinton had been able to do the same, she would've won in a landslide. But you see, these millennials, these movers and shakers as they think they are, couldn't be bothered to take precious time out of their day to vote. Now though, they find plenty of time to protest, and cry and complain about the popular vote, as opposed to the Constitutional electoral vote. Too little too fucking late, they lose. Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump, think about that for a moment, she lost to the Clown Donald Trump. How much of a fucking loser is Hillary Clinton? She lost to Donald Trump.

I predict, or hope, that by 2028 the Libertarian party will have a legitimate chance for POTUS, the reason I think that is the root platform of the Libertarian party is reduction of Government, and Governmental control/influence in our lives, and people are already showing that they want this, and these people WILL vote. Also, most people are done with the dems and repubs and their partisan bullshit, I know I sure as hell am.

I would have never under any circumstance voted for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, but I also would never consider not voting. If I wouldn't have felt that Gary Johnson and the Libertarian party fit my ideals and political philosophy, I would have written in Mickey Mouse, but I would have exercised my right/responsibility as a citizen of the United States of America. Many people better than me died to secure my right/responsibility to vote, I don't take that lightly.

if perhaps fg was stabbed in the back and got 30 days.

I cannot see tc30 going away 6 days before the election, however post election I can see the little coward hiding like the little sissy boy he is.

I'd give it another 2 weeks or so to see if tc30 emerges from under his rock just as stupid and dishonest  as always.

The other possibility is that he is with you know who seeking comfort in only ways you know who can give it to him, or perhaps with his $80 for 30 min gal. Maybe he needs a baby wipe to clean up

Excellent analysis BB, but the main reason HRC and the Democrats....

......lost was because of the party establishments support for the various trade deals and stricter regulations on emissions by the EPA, which have all resulted in the loss of millions of blue collar jobs in the rust belt and middle Appalachia regions.

Stop celebrating when everyone LOOKS differently but forbidding anyone to THINK differently.

To be fair, there are crazies on the far Right (and Left) that celebrate when their own think the same AND look the same. Of course the Left's problem with identity politics started out as opposition to the times when looking the same and thinking the same was more prevalent. The problem is, it worked so well for them they've been unable to see that their pendulum has swung to its own new extreme.

The general population of the United States is done with that. This past election should illustrate that.

I realize that it's too late for people like you, but I sure hope that other young open minded dems quit crying and whining and get on with finding out what the people of the United States of America want and how to align their policies/platform accordingly.

The only intelligent thing I've seen you type in the past two weeks is that Pelosi must go, she is a Dinosaur and the Democratic Party is in a perpetual downward spiral with her in any capacity of leadership, she needs to be kicked to the curb as has Hillary.

This divisive attitude which we've experienced since the election only causes harm to our country, our way of life, our future and our people. Nothing good or constructive comes from this, and those countries and people who wish to do us harm are enjoying the shift of attention away from themselves.

It's time to "get on with it"!

I don't support Trump, didn't vote for him, never would and by no means did I ever or would I ever imply that he's not party to the name calling and mud slinging, in fact I feel he initiated it. Having Trump as POTUS, I feel, is the lesser of two evils. The only thing which I feel tips the proverbial scales between those two clowns is that at least I don't have to look at or listen to the hideous beast that is Hillary Clinton.

The reality is, according to our Constitution, Trump won the Electoral College vote. Should the Electoral College be repealed? I'm not sure, I'd like to hear both sides and reason through. But that WILL NOT change the results of this election, it's "game over" for Hillary Clinton, her political career is OVER, and thank goodness.

You can continue to piss up a rope if you want, the rest of us are going to get on with it.

By the way, I've typed this more times than I wish to remember, and I've probably lost you by now as you seem to have the attention span of a gnat, but I voted for Gary Johnson, so my candidate lost too. The difference is, I will move on to be the best, most productive citizen that I can be, and you'll sit in the corner crying.

Then why are you doing it? Your subject line is exactly that, divisive, and not true.

Also, not true! Just look at how the Republican's in Congress have treated Obama. There was not much, if any objections voice, by congressmen and senators regarding Trump's attempt to delegitimize his presidency through his birther allegations. No, the silence aided the view, by many, on the right, that Obama was 'one of them' not 'one of us.' That was extremely divisive, and they hoped to capitalize on that.

And yes, you are correct that countries and people, like Putin are enjoy our divisiveness, but it's not just to take attention off from them, but to cause chaos in our governing system, in order to weaken us on the world stage, and place them in a stronger position. That's why they and he got involved in doing what they could to get Trump elected.
