There are many defintions of a lot of words.  To give a defintion with no attribution is intellectually lazy and a tad disengenous.

That said, the definition that you use is shockingly over-inclusive and misleading.  My doctor "frightens" people into taking their medicine by saying they will die if they don't.  Lots of groups use fear tactics - second hand smoke, climate change.  

Now, before you get this wrong, the last two may or may not be correct.  That is not the purpose of citing them.  Rather, they use fear by saying terrible things will happen if people don't act in a certain way
