The Democrats Just Lost the Senatesad_smile

Cheering for the underdog is one thing, but nobody cheers for a loser. And this is why the Democrats are going to get their asses handed to them in 2014.

What if your job was a Democratic strategist. Can you imagine how dumb you'd have to be to pursue gun control?

Consider the following: This is what Democrats had to gain by pushing gun control at the federal level. Best case scenario, the legislation is passed by the Senate, and it dies in the House. So in other words, your pay off is exactly ZERO.

So, then you gotta ask, what do you RISK by pushing this legislation that is doomed to fail?

1) Many Republicans have been demoralized since Bush left office. Many have stayed home on election day. This issue could rally them to the polls.

2) In 2014, the Obama Election Machine will not be working for the Democrats. They're on their own.

3) The President's party almost always loses some seats in the mid-terms. The buyer's remorse syndrome kicks in.

So then you gotta ask, what does the election map look like? If you guessed it won't look good for the Dems, then you guessed right.

Check out the wiki link below.

How many Republicans will be defending their Senate seats in blue states? The answer? One. That would be Susan Collins of Maine.

How many Democrats will be defending their Senate seats in red and swing states?

There are Democratic incumbents up for election in states like Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Virginia. Minnesota, which is traditionally a very blue state, is also quite rural, and a Senate seat is up for grabs there as well.

Making matters worse for the Dems, Democratic Senators will be retiring in states like South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, and West Virginia.

So in other words, the ability of the Dems to pick up seats in the Senate in 2014 is almost nill. On the other hand, the GOP has a good fighting chance to pick up as many as 10 seats. If that happens, after 2014, the GOP will have a 55 seat majority in the Senate.

The GOP only has to beat 4 Democrats to take back control of the Senate.

So, risking all this, the Dems thought it was a good idea to pursue gun control at the federal level. Talk about fuck-tarded.

Oh, and there's one last thing that the Dems won with this failed legislation. They demonstrated, once again, that even with a majority in the Senate, they are weak and powerless to get things done. In other words, the Dems just proved to the entire nation that they're a bunch of fucking losers. And nobody likes a loser. They certainly don't tend to vote for them.

The Dems will rue the day they ever tried to pass gun control.

it won't be because of failed gun legislation, since the majority of Americans and NRA members are for background checks, and the majority of Americans are in favor of bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. In other words, the Reps, will not pickup many seats in blue states, merely because of this past episode of gun legislation. You are wildly overstating your case. Indeed, if the Reps. aren't careful regarding gun legislation, and immigration reform, anti-abortion laws, and the push for smaller government at the expense if creating more jobs, they may be pushed into looking too radical to vote for. And, the NRA may not be as such a potent weapon in their arsenal as they've been previously. See attached link!

The only way they don't win the Senate in 2014 is if they nominate some of the fucking idiotic candidates. I'm not sure if they've learned their lesson from that yet.

They could put up Todd Akin as their poster boy and run on social conservatism. That would equal things out in a hurry.

My hunch is that 2014 will look more like 2010 than 2012, they can't possibly be that stupid, can they? and yes, that was a rhetorical question.

My understand is that Jim DeMint had a lot to do with pushing for the most radical candidates possible. His outing from the Senate was, in a sense, punishment for the GOP losing so many seats they should have won.

The GOP could fuck this up, but I think they will be on their A game in 2014. Obama might as well take a nap for the next 4 years.

I would NOT bet the ranch, not with the crazy wacko's who have been winning RECENT Republican primaries.

with his organization to finance "winnable" candidates over the teabaggers, but he's getting his ass handed to him, and Haley Barbour has walked out on him. It could get pretty messy.

...because of the NRA's opposition to background checks.  He pointed out that Wayne LaPierre supported background checks in 1999 but has turned the NRA into lobbyists for gun manufacturers.

Willy - a rifle in one cold, dead hand and a baggy of weed in the other.

This will go down as the dumbest strategic move by a major political party since Dukakis decided it was a good idea to ride a fucking tank.
