Aaron Hernandez was a great NFL tight end for the NE Patriots from 2010-2012. He was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd and accused of murdering two other people. He committed suicide in prison while his Lloyd conviction was on appeal. (Post mortem, it was shown that Hernandez had severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and that may have contributed to his locally newsworthy and frequent violent behavior problems.)

So here's my question. After Trump is convicted of his various crimes, he will certainly file appeals. If Trump should die during the appeals processes, do you think that his convictions will be vacated by abatement ab initio? Or do you think that the appellate courts will certify the convictions of the lower courts?

I think it will bear on whether or not Trump will be allowed to lie in state in The Capital (what an ironic twist that would be: trashing The Capital once while alive and again in death). It might affect whether or not he is allowed to be buried in Arlington or another National Cemetery. (What an ironic twist that would be: Cadet Bone Spurs and Insurrectionist buried among honorable military veterans.)

This is like imp saying, "when Trump dies, which worm do you think will eat him first?"

...you can bet your sweet ass that Jack "The Pitbull" Smith will appeal it.  He won't let Trump get away with his crimes...even in death.
   
What I'd really like to see is the use of the doctrine of "non compos mentis ab initio."  If this doctrine is applied, Trump will be judged to be insane from his first day in office.  That means his entire term and all that happened in it will be erased, much as an entire season of "Dallas" was erased because it was JR's dream.  But in Trump's case, it will be considered to have been a nightmare.
