He could look in the mirror and say a few words to the crowd.
Was it a smart move in that it's an attempt by the GOP to quiet a major force and voice of the Tea Party? Or, is a very dumb move, in that she will be hearing top secret information, and seems to have some issues with impulse-control?
Michele Bachmann & intelligence are mutually exclusive concepts.

All my life, the left has painted its opponents as dumb. When I was a kid, Ike was a nice, avuncular guy who played golf and coasted throught the presidency. In fact, he was pretty damn smart, and his book is much better that Stevenson's, which collects dust.
Goldwater was supposed to be dumb and crazy. One LBJ slogan about Goldwater was "In your heart you know he's nuts."
Later, after they are dead, the left dusts them off as good republicans they like to quote. At the time they were dumb and crazy.
Sometimes people are called dumb for silly gaffes said in public. Case in point is Bush, but no one says Obama is dumb for saying Europe is a country, the U.S. has 57 states, or the motto of the U.S. is "E pluribus Unim." (It isn't.)
People say Biden is a lose cannon, but no one says he is dumb for saying President FDR went on TV when the market crashed. (I don't have time for BIden's other Greatest Hits.)
Likewise, Thomas is dumb because he doesn't say anything in oral argument, altough I could give you a list of justices who I have never heard ask a question. (My recollection is Douglas didn't ask many questions. BUt the left likes him, so a different standard applies.)
Thomas is dumb because of affirmative action, although there is no evidence he was an affirmative action admittee. Even the student doesn't really know. But on that line, I know of a black guy with a white mother who was from Hawaii, with a Moslem father, and spent years as a kid in Indonesia. DING DING DING DING DING. Affirmative action gong going full speed. (If only he were a one-legged Jewish lesbian, he would be perfect.)
Likewise, I would put money on any objective measurement of Bush v. Gore when it comes to brains, including SATs, grades, etc. What was Gore? A D student. Bush got decent grades at top schools. You may get in on a legacy admission, but the grading is anonymous. Unless you think that every professer at all the top schools was willing to engage in a vast conspiracy to boost his grades and violate the anonymous grading system, he ain't that dumb.
Reagan was never dumb when he was the head of the Screen Actors Guild and a democrat. He was respected. Until he because a GOP. Then people realized they were wrong all the time and he was dumb. (Funny thing. Now they are releasing papers of his and a lot of his early writings are in his own handwriting, decades before he thought of being pres, and they are pretty good. Let them release Obam's early writings and grades.)
Bachman was an attorney for the Feds, and I don't think there was anything ever said against her.
You can disagree with her, and you can think her opinions are wrong and even silly. (I think the same thing for a lot of people on the left.) But where is any objective evidence she is stupid?
-- Modified on 12/18/2010 12:35:54 PM
who has been thoroughly discredited in history-------yes, in my eyes, that makes her stupid. Phil, would you also defend Joe McCarthy ?However, if you don't believe me, watch the video link of Bachmann below & tell me is this a sentient person speaking ?
Btw, I liked Ike & Goldwater quite a bit & thought they were far from "stupid".
Also, when someone on the left displays massive ignorance, I'll call them on it also.
Wow, Phil-------stooping to defend the likes of Michele Bachmann---even some conservatives have criticized her outrageous statements.
Are you displaying some of that partisan "touchiness again" ?--------

As to Goldwater and Ike, you may like them now. The whole left quotes them now. Ah, time have changed. Now the enemies of the left, denigrated and cursed, are the new heroes. I can't wait until Nixon and Reagan are venerated by the Dems. That will be in about six years.
At the time, Goldwater and Ike were stupid. Goldwater was viewed as crazy as you describe Bachman now. As I say, the motto re Goldwater was "In your heart you know he's nuts." Sounds like what you are saying now.
YOu say when someone displays massive ignorance, you call them on that. 57 states, the motto of the U.S., Europe as a country, FDR as pres when the stock market crashed and going on TV. Did youcall them on it then? I could go on for pages about the stupid things Biden and Obama said.
I only watched the first part of the video. I don't know about Rezzo and his politics, but the basic theory that Obama had a history of hanging out with people who are anti-American cannot be denied. From Ayers, to Wright, to van Jones, to Alinsky, this is the truth. He had that other appointment of a woman whose had Mao as a hero. Yes, I think he does have a history of hanging around with people who can be called anti-Amernican, unless you think that "God Damn America" is a slogan of patriotism. And he hung out there for 20 tyears.
Do what you want with it, but I really don't see anything so insanely outrageous about saying he hung out with people that are not in the "God bless America" crowd.
Finally, I wasn't defending Bachman, per se. I was commenting on the fact that this is a pattern of the left. (I do think when someone has a history as a successful attorney to just say she is a crazy loon is a little weird.)

watch the tail end where "MS. Batshit" does a Joe McCarthy impersonation & tell me that she doesn't come across an an ingnorant, paranoid loon.

Howard Dean. Never read any critical posts from you about him. I have to agree 100% with dncphil. During my voting years, I've realized that the left NEVER defends their position on anything. Their only ploy is to attack. Attack anything, everything, and anyone that disagrees with them. James Carville is a prime example. As was Robert Torrecelli, (D) NJ. Couple of mud slinging, name calling assholes. Gotta give it to the left, they quickly take the offensive in a discussion. Whereas the right is back on their heels trying to defend their positions from the left. Those on the right need to grow some balls and get back in the face of those on the left.
Oh yeah, Gore also flunked out of Yale Divinity School. Ted Kennedy was booted from Harvard for having someone else take a couple of his tests. But hey, they are/were a couple of good, liberal democrats, no big deal. But GWB, he's dumb as a box of rocks, even though he took his own tests and didn't flunk out. Right.
As for Michelle Bachmann, I couldn't care less about her. How many times have you seen a democrat come from an Intell Committee meeting, and head straight for the nearest microphone? Tip O'Neil was good at giving up secrets. Just look at what he did on one of his sojurns to China. Embarrassed the hell out of Reagan, and the Chinese were reluctant to talk for a period of time after that.

He could look in the mirror and say a few words to the crowd.
Do I scare you ?!--------LMFAO !
Howard Dean is batshit loony? Based on what? Him screaming into a microphone at a campaign rally?
"the left NEVER defends their position on anything. Their only ploy is to attack...James Carville is a prime example."
This assumes Carville is a leftist. It also assumes that you'll never hear O'Reilly calling someone a "pinhead" or a teabagger calling someone a "Moran".
DLC'ers like Carville and neocons have two things in common. They're both arrogant as hell, and they're both stupid.
Michele Bachmann, on the other hand, is nothing more than Father Coughlin with tits.
Have you ever seen any interviews of Howard Dean, or listened to his speeches? He's nuts.
I'm not quite sure where O'Reilly fits in the political spectrum, because he attacks just about everybody. However, he does have a high ratings show. Very little of my electricity gets used watching it though.
Mary Matlin!
"I've realized that the left NEVER defends their position on anything. Their only ploy is to attack. Attack anything, everything, and anyone that disagrees with them. James Carville is a prime example."
And, you can say that with a straight face!
Yep, I was aware of that. Must be an interesting time at their dinner table. Also, my face is as straight as can be.
"They will gut Medicare, they will take away your social security, they want your grandparents eating dog food, they will eliminate food stamps, welfare, medicaid, school breakfasts and lunches, they will approve school vouchers and ruin your childs school, they will, they will, they will". That's part of the democrat mantra every election cycle, and it is all lies.
First, this is why I don't watch TV interviews, except when doing cardio at the gym. I don't know anyone who follows up or really develops ideas. It's gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
Also, I would love to know if her delays were caused by transmition from not doing "in-studio." You look dumber than you are when you can't answer quickly, but if you don't hear the question, you can't help it. (As I say, I don't know what caused it here.)
In any event, all she ended up saying was that she would like people to have their views exposed. I think the press has skated on a lot of people on the left. They have never asked people like Rangle or Barney Frank exactly what they want. I know Barney is a total proponent of "single-payer" and I think he as been given a pass, even though that is a very unpopular positions.
I am not saying they are anything in particular, although a lot of people on both sides moderate and hide their views.
I would love to have people more open. If they aren't I would love to have the press be more aggressive in determining exactly what people's goals are. That goes on both sides of the aisle. Mine and yours. Out people for ideas and let the chips fall where they may. (This also includes views of cloase associates. Views of donors are too tangential. I am concerned about who you hang out with and who you surround yourself with.
One final word about McCarthey. He is the perfect Broken Clock. Right twice a day. He was a drunk and a demagogue and has very little that can be said in his favor. HOWEVER, he was right in saying that communism was a threat.
Communism is a very evil system and it can be debated which is worse - communism in its Marxist/Leninist/Stalinist form or Nazism under Hitler. (I won't get into it with Charlie)
Sadly, McCarthy was such a pathetic joke that being "anti-communist" was swallowed up in being McCarthy. If you were against communists or if you wanted to expose them, you were "McCarthey" and the merits were never looked at.
If the most prominent anti-communist had not been a bafoon, like McCarthey, the dangers and evils of communism wouldn't be glossed over so easily.
Sadly, the leftists who were against going into WW II until Stalin were attacked were rehabilitated. Hundreds of thousands died while they were neutral. They were never given "McCarthy" shame.
Mr. Priapus should stick to defending facts instead of making up stuff. Bachman never mentioned McCarthy in that clip. Leave to the left to distort her plea for the Press to simply start doing their job during the 2008 campaign. It’s now well known the press pretty much ignored Obama’s ties to certain people. If the press had done their job exposing those connections, the 2008 election just might have turned out differently. But in typical leftist style, you’d rather have the Insult than the Truth.
Since you like to get your education from internet video clips, let’s see what you can pick up from the hesitancies of Tom Brokaw and Charlie Rose taking about what they don’t know about Obama just a couple of days before the 2008 election.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6F6PkPuNZE&feature=related
BTW, just because McCarthy went overboard and was too zealous does not mean he was incorrect in most of his assessments about Communists in the government. I hesitate to include my last paragraph because in standard Mr. Priapus style you will use it to ignore the first two.

"All my life, the left has painted its opponents as dumb."
Did anyone call William Buckley Jr. a dumb shit? Did anyone ever call Pat Buchannan a moron? Did anyone of the left ever call Russel Kirk retarded?
I don't think much of the intellence of either party these days, but one party has representatives from places like New York, Maryland, Oregon, Massachusetts, and California. The other party has representatives from Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Now tell me Phil, which set of states are you more likely to find a moron? Don't confuse "painting" with a little bit of truth telling.
I admit I was speaking in generalizations, and should not have used "always." However, it is a very common tactic that can't be denied. Another example is Ford. He was portrayed as a bumbling fool because he tripped once. In fact, he was a very coordinated athelete, but one slip and that was his image for decades.
Of course, there are conservatives like Sowell and Buckley that no one can claim are dumb. However, they are not running for office.
It cannot be denied that there is a pattern of calling conservative politicians dumb, when if you used the same standards, the Dems would be equally dumb.
I notice you did not address any of the specifics I raised. Ike, Gore v. Bush, using gaffes as a sign of intellegence for Obama, etc.
I will address your point re States. I am not impressed by the intellectual ability of people from Mass or NY. Charlie Rangle is no great shakes in the brain Dept. Is Barney Frank a sure fire intellectual? Ted Kennedy - piece of work.
Of course, for the Belt Way crowd, calling the people in the "Fly Over States" as moronic is just typical.
(Indeed, the fact that you are willing to attribute a low intellegence to the conservative states illustrates my point. Yup. Us hicks is just plane dum.)
Did anyone call William Buckley Jr. a dumb shit? Did anyone ever call Pat Buchannan a moron? Did anyone of the left ever call Russel Kirk retarded?

Phil, it's a very common "tactic" because more often than not, I'm sad to say, it's true. Hell, at the last GOP presidential debates half the candidates raised their hands to say they didn't believe in evolution!
"when if you used the same standards, the Dems would be equally dumb."
They would be dumb, for sure, but equally dumb? That's just a denial of reality Phil.
"I notice you did not address any of the specifics I raised. Ike, Gore v. Bush, using gaffes as a sign of intellegence for Obama, etc."
Phil, you're confusing gaffes with stupidity. Anyone, even the best public speaker in the world, if they talk enough they will eventually make a gaffe. But there is a difference between that and being the dumbest son-of-a-bitch to ever hold the office of the Presidency.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkWpmWmi83Q
There is a difference between not being familiar with some of the native tongues in Europe, and opining publicly that you have no idea what the duties are for an office you are seeking.

"Of course, for the Belt Way crowd, calling the people in the "Fly Over States" as moronic is just typical."
It may be typical, but it also happens to be true. I once posted a graph on this board that compared 4th grade literacy rates by how that state voted in the 2004 election. It's reposted below. The trend is undeniable.
"Yup. Us hicks is just plane dum."
I didn't think you were a hick Phil. But I think what John Stewart Mill had to say on the subject is rather illuminating.
"Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives."
Be very careful willy, your bigotry is starting to peek out from the closet.
Republicans are scared to death of the Tea Party. The Democrats are doing everything they can to prop up the Republican buffer, because if the Democrat's Republican allies fall to the Tea Party, the Democrats are next for dinner. Enjoy the darwinian festivities. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Now if only a better third party was accomplishing. Oh well, with Democrats and Republicans as the status quo, the Tea Party ain't exactly bad.
Jeez------criticize ONE of their own & they go mangina ! I HAVE criticized Dems in past here---namely, the senile crook Charlie Wrangel who was just censured ( he shares that in common with the hero of the idiot right, Joe McCarthy ).I've also criticized Chris Matthews in the past, mein, as being "bipolar". Btw, mein, are you pointing to your lunch in that picture in your thread ?-- Another thing, when I said Bachmann was "chanelling" was being tongue in cheek-------( altho, with her wide-eyed lobotomized stare, looks like she's channelling---LOL )---Mein, you becoming as obtuse as Quad ?------LOL !
Lastly, to the right idiots who worship Joe Mccarthy, keep in mind his witch hunting methods widely reviled by many conservatives at the time, including Ike. Mccarthy was an alcoholic who died of cirrhosis of the liver at 48.
I suggest that the board's idiot right should worship another Mccarthy, more in keeping with their paranoid & atavistic philosophies---
Or is the GOP just hoping she gets an education there?
