If only a well trained 9 year old was there with a deadly weapon she could have taken down the 9 year old amateur with a deadly weapon.     The 9 year old may well fit right in to Fergusson, MO Police force.

at an indoor range run by the local NRA chapter. Can't remember how old I was. Probably 12 before being allowed to shoot a 16 gauge shotgun for hunting. How did this instructor not anticipate her having problems with recoil? Why would her parents allow her to shoot such a gun at such an early age?

**** Simple ****

American Gun Culture that says something called a second amendment allows people to get deadly weapons and kill others, accidentally, intentionally or just to settle a score like between a husband and wife, an employee and a former boss, or an LE who is scared of big men in front of him/her.

The rest of the world has a hard time understanding it.

Rap music might and  probably does promote more gun violence than the NRA ever will, probably responsible for more deaths too. The fact remains that murder doesn't stop with a firearms ban.
The second amendment is to protect us, you and I and every other citizen from a tyrannical government. With your apparent distrust of the police you have to be an IDIOT to be advocating for disarmament. There is no way our police will ever be disarmed. If you look back at the worst killings and genocides in the history of the world most have 2 things in common. A population that allowed itself to be disarmed and a government doing the killing. Nazi Germany killed more Jews in a single year than have died from firearms in America since 1950. Think about that, I know it can't happen here right?? Well once we are disarmed what would stop it?
That said the instructor giving a 9 yr old a fully automatic Uzi probably won't do it again, and I don't truly feel sorry for him. Guns are tools and dangerous tools if you don't respect many thing s we use every day you can end up dead.

Would love to hear how they'll try to rationalize this...." she was learning and being trained and her family was being responsible"....
Taking a girl to Bullets and Burgers instead of Chucky Cheese.....

I could care less if they understand it. If they get invaded, they will run to us with their hair on fire begging us to protect them.

Second Amendment guarantees guns that are used to kill.    If there was no second amendment, guns would have been banned long time ago like in hundreds of other countries

NRA did issue a statement:

I couldn't care less if a red or blue states allow whatever law they have on training. By the way, what's a long gun compared to an Uzi? What gets me is the mind set of these parents to put their daughter in that situation with a automatic uzi. My first experience was when I was 10 with with a 22 rifle, single bullet. I just don't get these parents. I saw the video and that girl was so unprepared and looks like she rather have the burgers then the bullets. Now fess up JD, would you put your daughter if that situation, if you had one, really now and don't tell me your political correct view

AND there was no restriction in this case for an Uzi, not that they were in the same class. Lawrence Odonnell was making that exact point last night on his show.

The parents thing is a total mystery and I agree 100%. You're right, from that perspective this is not a political issue at all. Its a common sense one.

the range instructor is more at fault than the parents any day of the week. I am assuming they were paying him, its his job and he's supposed to be the professional. Maybe the parents had no idea what they were handing their 9 yr old to shoot. Either way the professional was standing right there and in charge. I feel sorry for the girl. What a shitty memory to live with.

The Uzi she was firing was a machine pistol. Uzi does make machine guns though.  The major error is that long guns are also small arms. Heavy machine guns and things like grenade launchers are the next step up from small arms which are called light weapons.

that this so called "instructor" was even NRA certified. I sincerely doubt he was. I have not found anything but remorse and condemnation coming from anywhere related to the NRA. Some of these automatic weapon ranges are run more like carnival attractions than anything else. The real fault rests with the parents.
