Well, you must be a liberal Republican!  The phrase "I got you back" re-emeged from the African-American urban community sometime within the last decade.

It sounds meloramatic and hokey to me.  "I got your back"  -- I mean, what are you doing, are you going to the shoot-out at the OK Corral or something?

It's my impression that no self-respecting Republican would be caught dead using this commonplace slang.  Just ask Lynn Cheney or William Bennett or any of the self-appointed protectors of higher American culture.

"Does anyone have my back" or "Watch my back" or "Get my back" are all phrases that have been around well before Tupak.  Go watch a John Wayne movie sometime.

"got my back" is relatively new slang.  The concept of watching an ally's back is much older, of course.  But it was typically phrased differently and used in life-or-death situations.
