Mrs. O'Bomb made the statement "vote for your best interest". Shouldn't we be voting for the "Best interest of the country". I thought, JFK who, O'Bomb claims to be his hero said:
"Ask not what the country has done for you, ask yourself what you have done for the country".
McCain has a very valid point here.
Finally, I realized what the Mrs. said, "Vote for our best interest and make O'Bomb POTUS"
What an idiotic interpretation of that statement. One's self interest could be not seeing this country sinking further into the shitter. Maybe it's not seeing a relative fighting a pointless war in Iraq for the next 100 years.
The statement is not stupid, your interpretation definitely is though. If everyone votes for their self interest, which is the case for the past several elections, then you don't have country. What you have is special interest which is the collection of people with similar self interest. By your interpretation, all of the idiots who collapsed the market by looking after themselves are just looking for their self interest. Like wise, a thief and criminal is looking after their self interest. You have got see beyond the tip of your nose or you have imbibed too much Kool-aid.
War card and 100 years. If US pulls out now, whatever little credibility we have now won't be there.
Agreed, the Iraq war was a bone headed move, but got to finish it the right way.
No...in the past election people have been fleeced into thinking they were voting for the best interests of the country. More notably, thinking that Bush was the man to finish up what we already knew was a disastrous "war on terror."
Now, this time around, people's self interests happen to be in line with what we need...better economy, stronger national defense, unburdened by a pointless war, etc; and THAT'S what the soon-to-be first lady was saying. If you like twisting shit around, though, I can see how you'd leap all over it.
The right way to finish the Iraq war is to pull the fuck out in a way safest for the troops. Period.
The particular area of law that I am in would get much more funding if a Dem were elected in any position that might have an impact on the budget and how money is spent. I vote against my pocket book every time, because I believe the other issues are more important for the country than my salary. I am not complaining, only making the statement that I am aware I could be doing better under Dems.
As for JFK's "ask not what your country can do for you....." The Dems have given up on that approach. "We will help you with pre-school expenses. We will help you with college tuition, so you don't have to have a student job or a loan. We will help you with your medical bills, even when they are not emergency or particularly expensive, such as routine immunizations. We will give everyone a check for $5,000 at birth (Hillary's proposal). We will give every one a check for $1,000 from oil profits" (I mean, Christ, is that last one a bribe?)
In fact, one of the times when I wanted to smash the TV was during the last election when at a "town hall meeting" someone stood up and asked, "What will you do for me?" Of course, the Dems could flood her with answers, unlike the mean old GOP, all the while JFK was rolling in his grave.
If Obama is elected his policies backed by Reid and Pelosi will probably result in $200 bbl oil which would make me an enormous amount of money, but with the country in shambles where would I spend it? Not to mention the fact that for every extra dollar I would make they would probably tax me two. So I guess I am voting for my own self interest after all.
