The ruling class in Iran....were making light & gloating of Egypt's unrest.....

....& how the U.S. will lose influence there.... they could now claim to be the most influential power in the Middle East....that is...if they can maintain their power.

...because your're right that the security forces in Iran (especially the Revolutionary Guard) are very closely allied with the Ayatollahs.  They squashed the democracy protesters last time and, despite the  inspiration provided by the Egyptians I'm skeptical about any successful protest in Iran.  Still, it's great that they're getting out there and showing  up the regime as the hypocrites they are.

I don't see things changing there as quickly as they did in Egypt, but I think it puts added pressure on the government and the clerics, and change will now happen much sooner.

Iran has guard force under the control of the Mullah. They are ruthless and don't mind shooting their own people like they did in 2009.

One of the best trips I ever took was Syria, with Turkey a close follow up.  The Syrians were so hospitable, it was literally almost embarassing.

The lack of freedom is so sad, and I wish I thought it was heading in the right place.

I don't have great hope for Egypt.

Maybe, please maybe, the Iranians are tired of that form of dictatorship.  After two bad one's in a row, maybe they can get lucky.  

These are fake revolutions. The real power in the ME still lies within the capitalist class. Revolution means a triumph of the working and middle classes over the ruling and capitalist classes. What is going on in the ME is more like a changing of the guard.
