The uncertainty will trigger the oil prices to rise. A desired outcome?
When the War started, oil price was $20 something per bbl, now, $50 something ...

Does it really take a think tank or a study group to figure this one out?? Isn't this like doing a long term study on the sun rising from the east, and then having the think tank conclude that the sun rises from the east??
However I do agree with everything the article states!! Anyone with a IQ of atleast room temperature could have figured this one out though!!

All that oppose them are doomed. Wait, watch and see.

For all the people playing the futures market. People are making a killing, literally millions on oil futures contracts. I got out of it wayyyyyyyy toooooooo early
Most people with an IQ of room temp or above realise that we are fighting islamic extreemists. They don't mind dying for their cause. Thats not going to change any time soon. So we have given them a place to fight us,Iraq. Do you suppose its easier to get to bagdad or the US for a mid east terrorist who is commited to waging war on the US? Your own article states this ...
"Instead, he said, the Iraq campaign is having the opposite effect, drawing Islamic extremists from other parts of the world to join the battle"
It may have been by accident but if it draws them to Iraq we're
better off. Keep terrorism an away game.
That is just great, instead of going DIRECTLY after OBL et al(who, if you recall, are the ones who attacked US) we can lure them into a trap, Iraq. I'm not sure how this spreads democracy and freedom to the people of Iraq - guess they should be grateful we are giving them a chance (???) at democracy and a FRONT ROW seat.
I just wonder how things would have been if terrorist groups were hunted down individually, i.e., not invading a country (who by the way didn't attack US) and using our resources there. In my view, this is the opposite of DIVIDE AND CONQUER, but then again, the great war hero GWB is a UNITER.
The response of GWB is predictable - go after what's (supposedly) easiest [mission not quite accomplished] and more profitable.
Do you suppose capturing Sadaaam was easier than capturing Bin Laden ? If so much of our resources are spent in Iraq, do you think terrorists may have more mobility throughout the rest of the world ?
dude- you need to stand closer to the heater! In iraq we are fighting an insurgency. Some of its perpetrators are terorrists, MANY are NOT! If all the hard core Terrs left Iraq, we would still have our hands full with the insurgents!
This is a distinction WITH a difference.
But the slippery slope of getting a group of people who want us out of Iraq to step up their opposition to the terrorist level- a very real issue.
Read the WSJ writer's article form today's Doonsbury- a lot of the folks ready to blow up american soldiers and collaborators would never think of coming here to fight. But the few who do are getting trained up real fast.
This is a variation of you reactionaries' great ideas on prisons. Now we have a lot of places where angry criminals can go to school to get more skilled and even less hope of living in the regular world. I guess the idea is to train our eneemies in combat, so they are really good by the time they come over here to get busy. I think we were better off when the incompetant Baaathists trained them...
... keep and fight the terrorist over there ?
Ummmmmm just how many did it actually take to fly the planes into the WTC & Pentagon on 9/11 ? not many.
WHAT makes you think that there aren't already more SUADI (NOT Iraqi !!!) Islamic Extremists already IN the United States carrying out their next plan of attack ? Recent TV news had a story of a supposed Islamic looking man taking pictures and scouting out bridges and ferry boats ( I forget what city ? ) but this shows you that we are still VERY at risk.
The thing all you GUN-ho types "let's just go nuke 'em all" don't seem to understand is that this isn't US fighting another "COUNTRY". Those that call themselves Terrorist are mobile and not limited to fighting on any one particular turf, what pray tell happens if all of our Forces and Reservist are off playing war in Iraq, and yet again just a small handful of terrorist manage to blow up a building, a train station, and ship yard full of people here at home in the USA, is that what it will take for you to understand that we are not at WAR with a country, and we can't just "take the war to them and fight it over there" ?
I say we have been LUCKY not to have had another 9/11 type attack here at home, but that doesn't mean it can't happen again, if you think that, tell it to the people of Spain that had the train full of people blown up, tell it the Russian school full of children that were attacked. We've been lucky, and/or the terrorist just haven't put their plans for the USA in motion yet.
I happen to agree with something G.W. Bush said, "We can NOT win a war against Terrorist", for the simple fact that unless you change the way you deal with them, just putting one down will tend to bread two more to replace them. It's like a hornets nest and Bush is trying to fight them with a fly swatter and a can of Raid, he may get a few of them, but ultimately he's only pissing off the collective, and I hate to tell you, but there isn't enough Raid to win this war.
It's why what Kerry said in the NY times article actually makes more sense, due to the fact that we can not expect to defeat this enemy, we either have to learn how to control it better, or learn how to co-habitate with it better.
John Kerry would have impotent Jimmie Carter foreign policy. He just said so. He just said so.
Bush is gonna open up another can of whup ass on the last dumbass terrorists.
No going back to pre 9/11 no way no how.
P.S. Bush is ready, he's gonna whomp on Kerry tomorrow. Old moe is with Bush and he's gonna give Kerry the coup de grace. Kerry's gonna flounder and he will not be smooth. Kerry's gonna do all kinds of faux pas.
Kerry is a loser. Kerry is a loser.
