Your right. Romney tried to navigate those waters; hard right during the primaries, then hard left back to the middle for the general election.

Sadly, probably not to the evangelical fringe, even the libertarian fringe might have trouble voting for him in a primary, although less so.

Ryan if he runs in 2016 though will likely get the nod, he is very appealing to evangelicals, and for some reasons a lot of tea party/libertarians think he is actually one of them.

Christ would appeal more in the general election, and Ryan would keep the evangelicals and tea party/libertarians in the tent along with their energy. The other way around may scare off too many in the general election.

Oh I do think Christi would do better in a general election no doubt, Just between 2010(congressional primaries) and 2012 (congressional/presidential Primaries) I am just not sure they get that you not only need to win the primaries but you also need to win the general elections.

Granted I don't agree with a lot of what Christi says, as far as current republican's go though I would rather see him win then most of the batch, and heck depending on who the democrats put up I might even vote for him.

As laffy pointed out, it's possible it will change by 2016, I am just not holding my breath that it will.  2014 might offer a decent vision of what is going to go on with the republican party though.
