HEY, SNOW! HOW ABOUT ANOTHER EDITORIAL MASQUERADING AS NEWS??

You don't like the book. You don't like Ayn Rand. You won't see the movie. I get it.

Just looking at the trailer, the acting looks a bit cheesy, and I'm being kind. Now if the movie had a better screenplay, better actors, better director, i.e. Steven Spielberg, then Hollywood would be supportive. One thing about the executives, writers, directors and actors, they take narcissism to another level, as well as love for money. Nothing wrong w/the latter.

Hey, even Disney supported Mel Gibson's Apocalypto movie after his little DUI incident. So see inicky46, it's first about politics in Hollywood, but at the end of the day, even money trumps Hollywood's liberal bent.

"Crushingly boring," says the LA Times.  I'm sure snow will say it's because the LA Times is liberal.  Yeah, right, but they're also a flack for Hollywood and even they couldn't help holding their nose.
Can't wait to see what the box office receipts are for opening weekend.  Let me guess:  if snow wasn't delusional about 4 multiplex screens being sold out (likely), it will only be because the Ayn Rand Cult of LA block-booked the theaters.  No one else will go to see this mess.

Revenge of the Nerds grossed $40,900,000. The critically acclaimed The Station Agent, the only major release to star a dwarf and a rare film where there are scenes where the characters read on the screen, grossed less than $6,000,000.

Is Nerds 7-8 times better? I don’t think so.

The 2006 independent movie Zyzzyx Road made just $30.00 at the domestic box office even with B list star Tom Sizemore and up and coming A list star Katherine Heigl. Reportedly 2 of the 6 tickets sold were sold to cast members. Does that mean it was a bad film? Well, probably so but this is an extreme example.

A film of a book about ideas is not expected to do well at the box office and that is not how it going to be judged.
Take Mindwalk, for example, a film staring Sam Waterston and Liv Wilder. The entire film shows them wondering around  Mont Saint Michel, France discussing systems theory and systems thinking.

Mindwalk did not exactly pack em in the box office to put it mildly. And if you have no interest in systems theory, you will find this film to be "crushingly boring."

Atlas Shrugged will be compared to films of this genre, not Revenge of the Nerds.

First you claim it will do terrible box office...

When it does, then you have to run to liberal critics who would hate it no matter what because of it's messaging.

It;s a movie with a GREAT MESSAGE, and as an economic enterprise, well...

SOLD OUT!! Enogh said...

I think that will pretty much assure Parts 2 and 3 :-)

trying to see it.

Human nature the youth question authority.

The authority figures they have now are largely the liberal educators who were children of the 60s. So they question the liberal philosophies the preach.

Perhaps there is hope...

Yep.  The difference was "Apocaltypto" was a pretty good movie.  Mel's a multi-level douchebag but he knows how to make 'em.

You cite four screens to "prove" the movie's box office appeal?  Like I said, can't wait 'til Monday when the actual #s come out.  But, hey, don't let the facts confuse you.

I guess you haven't read all the lousy reviews.  The point is it's NOT a good film.  It was snow who then insisted lots of people were going to see it and I simply responded that I doubted it would generate any significant revenues.  Can't wait to see the weekend box office reports on Monday.

See if they make the second and third parts. If so, SUCCESS!!

I realize you don't like the message of the movie so you hate to see the theatres full.

TOO BAD!!!

If you want to be HONEST (which I doubt you will), take a look at the $$$ per screen, not overall since it was a limited release...

full of shit.  To wit:
1)  You are totally wrong that I don't like the message of the movie.  In fact, it's you I don't like.  Really.
2)  The $$$ per screen for the first weekend will likely be inflated by cultists like yourself.  So, while I personally will guess the amounts will be low, even if they are decent it won't determine whether parts 2 and 3 get made.  That will be determined by the following weekends and the total gross of the movie.  You need to take Movie Biz 101.  Lots of flicks have had a big first weekend based on a variety of factors, then tanked based on terrible word of mouth.  But I doubt very much whether this turkey will do well even in the first weekend.
Let's chat Monday.  I look forward to it.

that speaks well of my character ;-)

On the second point, yes, we will see. personally hollywood has fallen in love with the trilogy, but only if the first is a money maker.

As you said, we will see. BTW, don't jump for joy when box receipts drop after the first week. It happens to ALL movies.

That would be like saying "see, the temperature dropped when the sun went down". OUr challenge here will take a while to see who is right, not a few weeks.

Since I don't actually "know" you, it's probably not fair to say I can really dislike "you."  Your posts, on the other hand, are eminently dislikeable.
Now, as for movie biz facts, let me take you to school a bit.  Your response about box office receipts always dropping is a) not true and b) missing the point.  First of all, while it is atypical, some movies actually do increase their revenues after the first week.  It depends on a variety of factors like word of mouth and/or an increase in the number of screens.  Second, while most movies do suffer a drop-off it's the degree of drop-off that matters, assuming the number of screens stays about the same.  So a movie that "has legs" may drop off slightly (generally less than 30% after the first weekend), while a turkey will have a precipitous drop in the second weekend.  I was suggesting this second scenario for "Atlas Shrugged."  So even if it does well (on a per screen basis, as you correctly suggested, not on overall gross), if the per-screen revenues drop more than 30% in the second week it will still be considered a turkey.

because of the messaging behind the movie, it will probably do GREAT in DVD sales. The book has been out for decades and just moved up into the top 10 on the Amazon best seller list.

A lot of folks are going to be buing this when it goes to DVD, just like the book.

You can't just wait until the 2nd week, as I said, there will be a lot of other factors. Let's see if they go into production on Part II, for myself, that will be the judge if this film was successful.

I think you're wrong on all counts.  First, there's no reason the movie will automatically do well in DVD sales, even though getting lousy reviews doesn't insure it won't.  There are lots of books made into movies that flop at the box office and also in DVD release.  You're also wrong about the importance of the second week.  Whether a movie does well or poorly in the second week is the true gauge of if it has "legs."  This is not a liberal or conservative issue, just a movie biz fact, and I was involved in the media business for many years.  Finally, as to whether there will be Part 2 or 3, it depends on how well the film does at the box office but also whether there are people who, for whatever reason, are committed to fund production no matter if it makes financial sense or not.

are you talking about Air America?!?!?!

LMFAO!!!!

You think I am wrong, so what, I think you are wrong. You can gripe all day, but like I said, we will see what happens in the long term.

I do find one thing funny though, the left really HATES this movie because of teh message, but so what, the book has been a best seller for years, the message is already out!! What do they hope to accomplish by damning the movie???

Sorry guys, cat's out of the bag already  on this one!!

Also, one other thought occured to me, if you use financial success as the sole basis for a media venture, you must be a HUGE RUSH LIMBAUGH FAN!!!   HE HE HE

Hmmm, let's see.  We have an insight to the muddled organ that is snowhole's brain.
1)  Throw up a red herring re Air America.  Ummm...actually that's a good thing to which to compare "Atlas Shrugged" a financial turkey!  Nice work, snow!  I hardly ever listened to it, just as I've stopped listening to the drivel that is MSNBC and Fox "News."  I don't like being fed bullshit.  But keep drinking your own Kool-Ade.
2) "You can gripe all day."  Actually, I haven't been griping at all.  Just trying (futilely, apparantly) to have a rational discusson with you about the movie's prospects based on my own business experience (as opposed to your prejudices).  I can now see how pointless that effort is.
3)  I don't "hate" the movie.  I'm just skeptical about it's success based on what I've read about it.  But listen to your rant.  What an angry little man you've become!  Adding "HE HE HE" won't fool anyone.  Then again, it could just have been an annoucnement abouit your sexual preferences.  Gosh, where's F_U when you need him?  Perhaps even he has been turned off by your ridiculous rants
4)  I am certainly a fan of Rush Limbaugh's business model.  But, really snow, how hard is it making a buck feeding Kool-Ade to wingnuts like you?
Now why don't you try feeding us another editorial masquerading as news?

You claim to be trying to have a rational discussion, then then refer to me as snowhole...

Sounds like something you would hear in Jr High school, so while I have never met you, do not think I could ever consider you a person worthy of real intellectual persuasion capable of carrying on a "rational discussion"

BTW, love the name, cracks me up and lets me know I have gotten to you and beaten you in the argument. Remember, the person who has to revert to personal attacks has lost the argument...
