OK, its all the rage among some quarters to talk about Cultural Appropriation and Gentrification. The latest example is some guy called Jesse Williams and his spiel at the BET. As far as I can make out, it means either white people wearing sombreros and serving margaritas on Cinco de Mayo, or whitey singing or liking or buying rap. If you wear or imitate or use some cultural artifact or invention that isn't from your people, your race, it is wrong. You should stick to your own kind.

Well ok, its not wrong if Jesse makes his speech wearing 'white clothes' (pants, a shirt with buttons, pants, shoes) and speaking into a microphone on a television program, in English, accepting an award for his documentary film (white cultural, linquistic and technological inventions). THAT is not cultural appropriation. Everyone around the world uses western technology and wears western clothing and lives western lifestyles, and under western forms of government ubiquitously. Eskimos wear jeans, Chinese wear business suits, Africans drive cars, Arabs fly in planes, Mexicans use Iphones, etc. I could swear I've seen blacks dance ballet, sing opera, and a hell of a lot of Asians play violins.

Nope, Cultural Appropriation involves the bad people, Whitey, using the very important, vital innovations of the Good People, like, er... Twerking?...without official permission.

Gentrification is the same I take it. If you are white, don't you dare move into some other ethnicity's neighborhood... but don't you dare object to other ethnicities moving into yours.

Again, the important thing is not to get hung up on objective definitions of right or wrong. Neutral objective standards are Racist. Nope, just remember, Whitey Bad.

I can see how upsetting this is for you. All I can suggest is Alka Seltzer. That and prayer.

Both gentrification and appropriation usually only give people problems when used for financial gain at the cost of another's dignity. I drove a Pontiac for years and no one complained. It's name honored a great man. Just like when I drove a Lincoln. Nobody slaps my hand if I eat my fried rice with chop sticks. I unashamedly enjoy German beer at every opportunity.

Why anyone would want to make fun of anybody else is a mystery, but I have to admit that my crack about Alka Seltzer and prayer falls into that category, so in that instance, upon reflection, I'm also guilty.

Why does it bother you that Whitey is so often portrayed as an insensitive, clueless asshole? That cultural image as as old and as American as The Three Stooges 2-reelers. So you are seen as just another stooge. Isn't that really all you are?

DAMN!!! I done it AGAIN!!!! Let me rephrase that. I don't REALLY believe that ALL Whiteys are stooges. SOME are very nice.

Jesse Williams speech was hailed by many and I know why you could not take it.

So I know you have racists views and your comments prove that on here.
Just learn something first, before posting a stupid ass comment.

You know Jesse Williams mother is white and his father is black.
We all know he makes more money than you.

so, when Justin Timberlake or Iggy Azalea or Mackelmore produce popular rap songs, are accused of cultural appropriation, or white teens stupidly imitate idiot black rappers, and receive the same, its because it effects other's dignity?

Chop sticks and beer are dumb examples. Chinese don't endemicly complain, that's mostly a black thing, and Germans are white, and everyone "appropriates" white stuff. Duh, that was the whole point. Pontiacs? Come on, that name was before the era of the great PC jihad, and most PC Social Justice Warriors don't know the origin of names like Pontiac or Potomac etc, that's why it receives no protest.
