Hard to reinstate something like what FDR did considering the average gold investor doesn't actually take possession of gold. But since we are going through a little nationalization phase (AIG, and the DEMS mandate to take equity in companies in return for $700B bailout), I wouldn't be surprised if the govt went after Freeport McMoRan, Newmont Mining, Barrick Gold, or other basic material companies.
