Heard a good one last night about a guy whose wife went into labor while they were visiting a blue city that still practiced DEI.  He rushed her to the hospital where she gave birth.  The nurse came out and said to him, "Congratulations, Mr. Johnson, it's a boy . . . . for now.

There's a first for everything. This is the first time that you really didn't inadvertently put a smile on my face.

Anyhow, even in 'DEI hospitals, ' no one would think to say that. The most obvious sign that you were still stuck in another century was when you said, "The nurse came out." Ummm. Haven't you been to a baby delivery in the past 20 years? These days, Mr. Johnson would have been in the delivery suite supporting his wife throughout. Especially if, as you said, they were "visiting a blue city'. So, did she just deliver the baby alone? Who cut the umbilical cord? He didn't see the gender when he cut the umbilical cord?

You're living in the Stone Age. No cap. But you don't have a daughter or granddaughter who has given birth in the last 5-10 years? Or did they just not invite you? I'm just saying, if you're not getting invitations to family events, then maybe you should ask yourself why.

was lost on you.  I took all of the "coach" training when my first wife was pregnant with my first child so I could be a participant in the birthing process.  I sat up all night while she was dilating, only to have the nurse come out and tell me 14 hours later that the doctor is going to do a Caesarian section, and I would not be allowed to be present for that.  This was 40 years ago, so maybe some things have changed, but it wasn't the Stone Age.  In my case the nurse DID come out and congratulate me and tell me it was a healthy boy.

You seem to be the one stuck in a one-size-fits-all world.   Narrowmindedness is the one way to ruin your future that no one can help you with.  You must come to the realization on your own that maybe there are things that you DO NOT KNOW.

Well,

It's a really good thing that no one can accuse me of being narrow-minded!

Also, I have personally HAD vaginal deliveries and cesarian sections in the past ten years. My husband was right next to me as an active participant throughout both. That's just how things are done nowadays.

I am the first to admit that I don't know everything. I consistently refer to myself as a dumb hooker who is learning from hobbyists. Only a fool thinks they know everything. But "That's what I do: I know [some] things," spoken by Tyrion Lannister.

What you know, what you don't know, and what you don't know that you don't know.   It's the third one that's tricky.

Here's a link for Can't-Do-Links or cite sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_are_unknown_unknowns
You can read the basics of the ideas but see also the additional unknowns:
.
"Psychoanalytic philosopher Slavoj Žižek says that beyond these three categories there is a fourth, the unknown known, that which *****one intentionally refuses to acknowledge that one knows***** ..." (E.g., The Exonerated Five, the 2020 election was NOT stolen, investigations found numerous examples of the Trump campaign colluding with the Russians, etc.).
.
"German sociologists Christopher Daase and Oliver Kessler agreed that the cognitive frame for political practice may be determined by the relationship between "what we know, what we do not know, what we cannot know", but stated that Rumsfeld left out "what we do not like to know". ..."
.
The key ideas go back at least as far as Socrates, 2000+ years ago.
