( regrettably, Iraq had Democracy "forced" upon it----:(         )

If I've omitted any Muslim democracies, please lemme know.

Q: why are there so few Muslim Democracies ?

Iran used to be a democracy, that is until we overthrew it. Iraq used to be a western place, and Baghdad used to be the intellectual center of the Middle East. Sadly, things change for a lot of different reasons.

I'm sure Islam has had a serious detrimental effect on how many democracies there are in the Middle East, but their oil reserves have had a more negative effect in my estimation.

Has inept and corrupt civilian government. Military and the Mullah's dictate what the government can and cannot do. One of their assembly members Sherry Rehman was filing a bill to revise the blasphemy laws, mullah's threatened her life and the Prime Minister asked her to recall the bill.

Was on BBC this morning. We don't much about what is going on in any other country because our esteemed news organizations doesn't report. They are only report sensational things like Egypt where Hosni terrorized people for 30 years.

Democracy doesn't fit with Islamic beliefs. One tenet of a democracy is equal rights for everyone. Islam believes women are subservient to male, if you are not a muslim, you are not muslim then you are an infidel, you either convert to Islam or be killed. Most of all religion plays a humongous role in day-to-day life. Empowers rulers and religious mullah's and imams and some times both are the same.

How is democracy going to work in this belief system?

Deep down inside all Democrats are secretly Muslim.  Some of them are in denial, but most accept their faith privately.  Very few ever publicly admit to their tendencies, but its there.  You can always tell.

then the city of Chicago would be the most Republican city in America.

Nope, there is a lot of bigotry in all parties, including your wonderful Democratic Party Mr. Priapus53.

Really? I never knew that George Wallace and Lester Maddox, were republicans.

Be honest about it....the bigot rope swings both ways. Too bad the bigots aren't hanging from it.

All of south was democrat territory till the early fifties. Then the civil rights movement caused party affiliations to change. All of the racists ended up in the republican party. US politicians are lackeys for the capitalist class. They are all cut fron the same cloth.

For the same reason Israel wouldn't have a democratically elected government if the Hasidic Jews, in that country, had power. Nor, would we, in this country, if one sect of fundamentalist Christian had power. They see the only legitimate form of government being a theocracy, where God rules, and his priests or ministers carry out his will for his people. It's not until the people of country can separate out church and state sufficiently that you can begin to have a democratically elected government.

South Korea, the western half the United States, et al. Do you also "regret" that fact?
