And here is more evidence of most Americans' apathy.

Kerry is doing as well as he is in the polls! ;-)

Commercial sources of info are an extraordinary power, wrapped in their market context, creating their filter.  Whether one listens to Rush or reads Salon.com, the filter has extraordinary power over our perceptions.

It's all marketing. I took a long international flight not long ago and wanted to read The Pentagon's New Map.  The main thing I noticed in the bookstore was how many titles were either "George Bush is a fascist idiot" or "John Kerry is a commie faggot."  Now, book publishers approve titles because they think they'll sell.  I guess people like to read what they already believe.  So filters = market segments.

Take talk radio hosts.  If the caller agrees he can be a drooler struggling to stay conscious and the host will prop 'em up and tell 'em what to say, and then close with a, "I couldn't agree more!"  The goal is to keep the market segment coming back.

America is adept at creating layers upon layers of bullshit.  We’re in serious need of the red pill.

Ok, to the point.  Let’s assume half or more of our “fellow citizens,” can’t grasp the complexity of the environment.  They smell the marketing opium coming at them, in between Jerry Springer and Elimidate.  There is a symbiotic herd mentality  between the press and the politicians.  What fans the flames of the polling groups?  Why would a large media corporation selling cars and sofas take on journalistic leadership outside the context of its demographic? Where do these intersect? By election time, there’s nothing vital in it.  It’s been eviscerated by caution, duplicitous agendas and expediency, chewed by the pack dogs competing for an audience, and shit out in $100M’s of inane, cowardly and misleading ads.  Or a debate that makes my brain droop from lack of oxygen.

I have a dream.  One day, a politician will stand up and shout, I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it any more.  Most  Americans know you’re settling for piles upon piles of crap.  You’re not a victim, you’re just lazy.  When was the last time you thought for yourself and admitted to any the self-deceit & bullshit you’re swallowing?  Here are the 10 biggest lies in gov’t and the press.  Here’s my 20 year vision to address 7 core issues. Anything that doesn’t look at 20 years is a joke. There’ll be a test. If you can’t grasp the information, don’t vote for me.   And there may not be anything in it for your little self-centered agenda.  Get used to it.

I think I’m gonna get drunk.

In new york you can't ask the people who show up at the polls for a picture id just to verify that they are eligable to vote. Forget if they know a candidates positions. Hell most people can't name the 2 senators from their state. Bring back the Poll tax.

Uh Dude-  If more people voted- your precious GOP would be a minor third party.  While real conservatives bemoan the facts, the present reactionary leadership of the GOP revels in it and tries to deny votes to as many as possible.
