ad with a video of Reagan talking against tariffs.  Trump responded that he is not going to discuss a trade deal with them anymore.  Then the Reagan Foundation said the video was taken out of context, was copyrighted, and that they were going to sue Ontario.  Ontario decided to take the video down in order to avoid the lawsuit, which means they knew they were misrepresenting Reagan's context.

in spite of the trade agreement.  Trump gave them a chance to remove their tariffs on american goods and they refused.  He ordered them to tighten the border and they refused.  Trudeau came to washington to try and talk his way out of the incoming head winds and was made to look like the cuck he is and was embarrassed and made to look like a feckless child to the whole world.   Only then, he began to follow orders by doing a few things he thought he could appease Trump with.  He fafo'd and now he's out of a job and the next homo prog/lib leader is trying to dogwalk Trump into appeasement and now the whole country of canada is finding out what happens when you fuck around with Trump.

"General premise of the ad is spot on" you are making an argument that the fact that it is taken out of context and misstates the true meaning of the ENTIRE comment by Reagan to the point that the Reagan foundation attorneys found it actionable in court, you are trying to justify the falsity of the commercial.  This is not new to Democrats.  They have been doing it for years, and since they are the party of low-information voters, it generally works to a certain degree.
