With one fell tweet, he pushed Coca-Cola to dump the corn syrup and using good ole American sugar instead. Now that's Power and Influence!

High fructose corn syrup is terrible for you. Cane sugar actually is better and tastes better. Which is why Mexican Coke is preferred by afficianadoes. So the Mexicans ARE good for something!

Coca Cola is creating a separate product line in the U.S. with sugar as the sweetener instead of HFCS. They are not completely changing their beverage over to sugar. And this excerpt from a Newsweek article  . . .
.
"Sugar is more expensive, and Coca‑Cola knows it. Analysts estimate the switch could add hundreds of millions of dollars to its ingredient costs if scaled broadly. Domestic cane sugar supply is limited, concentrated in Florida and Louisiana. And the moment a company tries to import more, it slams into tariff walls. That, and the fact that its harvest season is short, is not a recipe for scale."
.
If Trump was so concerned about consumers' health, he would have signed an executive order requiring food processors to switch to sugar from HFCS, but he didn't. He just prefers the taste of sugar.

"... Another problematical additive is high fructose corn syrup which has probably contributed to the increase in obesity and metabolic syndrome in the US since the 1960s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-fructose_corn_syrup#Obesity_and_metabolic_syndrome HFCS (made from corn) was originally developed to deal with (cane and beet) sugar shortages and their high cost. I.e., it was intended to "help" to lower the cost of foods (which it did) but had other unintended consequences. Even if you accept that there is no proof of the metabolic differences between sucrose and HFCS, it did lower the cost of such sweeteners and increased their use and consumption = more empty calories (Big Gulp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Gulp#Controversy ) than a pre-HFCS diet.

Re: High fructose corn syrup.
There’s speculation that the pesticides used on corn causes ill effects on health. Switching to sugar will hopefully prevent this. Most other countries have already banned the use of high fructose corn syrup, and it’s introduction to the market coincides with diabetes rates skyrocketing.

…he only drinks Diet Coke.

So why would Trump care?  People haven’t been clamoring to any great extent to replace HFC’s with cane sugar.

He only did it to show he could bully Coca Cola.  The company will probably “work” on replacing HFC’s until Trump leaves office.  They know he has the attention span of a gnat and will move on to something else.

After Trump leaves office, Coca Cola will send Trump a T-shirt:
