mainstream Democrats as members of the "radical left", and I'd like them to see a reminder of what a real radical leftist is.

When I started posting on this board a while back, I used the handle StartThinking for awhile, because that was what I was trying to get some of the posters to do.  Then I used TellingItLikeItIs, because it's always good when someone on this board does that, and a lot of people did, and still do.

My "real" (LOL!) name is JackVance.

So here's my question:  If mainstream Democrats are "radical leftists", what were the members of The Weather Underground?

Are you a fan of Jack Vance [the author?]

About your original questions, look at Republicans!  The most financially irresponsible bunch one could have ever imagined! Going against the grain of conservatism:

1) Record budget deficit
2) Wars with no economic objectives at least (I am against any war in the age of nuclear weapons)

Democrats right now are confused a bit, but what will emerge would be something powerful.  I hope!  After misforecasting this election, I am so confused too!!!

originally signed up for TER, having no idea that the TER discussion boards would be as interesting as they became.

that voted for Bush!

To me of course not all Democrats are "radical leftists", I respect a good many of them in public office, for example Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Joe Lieberman, Diane Feinstein, Bob Graham, Zell Miller   even if I rarely agree with their politics.

However, Kerry, Kennedy, Daschle, Dodd,  Leahy, Boxer to name are few are more like the Sinn Fein arm of the Irish Republican Army than patriotic citizen legislators doing what is best for America as a whole.

It would seem that you disallow degrees of "radical leftists", holding to some invisible line that must be passed.  I would say those that fit the bill would be those who secretly or overtly hope that we fail in the war on terrorism and more directly, fail in Iraq.

Flame away!  But remember those on my (leftist) list voted against the first Gulf War (even if the whole world supported it) and those who were in office fought Ronald Reagan tooth and nail in his Victory over the Soviet evil!  Have they ever been on America's side, ever?

... No, they did not all die in a bomb blast in NYC.  No I am not, nor was I ever a member.

and those to the left of them are all "radical leftists", but in varying degrees.

Am I understanding you correctly?

They were anlong the lines of the animal liberation front, and the eco terrorists who spike trees to injure mill workers. The right has domestic terrorists too the people who blow up abortion clinics and shoot doctors and med staff from the clinincs are no better.
If you want to change policy work for it though the system.

Little correction.  The tree spikes are not to injure mill workers- they are to get mills to avoid the trees altogether in case they might contain spikes.

It is a distinction with a difference- the intent is the use the tthhreat of injury to get the loggers to leave the trees alone.

It is like the use of mines in warfare.  They are not usually really to blow people up- they are to make people go slowly or avoid the area altogether in case they might be blown up.

as to your other point-  unfortunately there often does need to be a stick to make people see the carrot.  Without the IRA- Sinn Fein might be easily marginalised.  I happen to hate them both, as they have killed friends of the family, but they are together more powerful than either one apart.

If people don't listen to the US Govt- what happens?  soldiers or cops!  Weaker political entities often need that muscle too.

save for the comments about Bob Graham (who seems to have gone off the deep end of late).  I would add that those I would count among "radical leftists" are the BushHating "he lied!" crowd that misrepresents historical fact in order to slander the President.

will provoke the bile from the likes of llcar, sdstud, and others who attacked me so viciously for using the handle "Ding Chavez" for awhile.  I never patted myself on the back, nor acted as my own amen chorus, so apparently it was simply offensive that I used a fictitious handle.

Or will the hypocrisy of the radical left --- and yes, most of those attacking me do qualify --- be demonstrated once again?
