Bringing in the kids to chat, taking action on bump stocks, speaking about tightening up background checks, etc is just smart politics as he is not letting the issue engulf him.
None of what he is doing or proposing is likely to receive any real opposition from the vast majority of the Right so he wont lose his base over any of this, and yet, at the same time, he will appear reasonable to moderate and independents.

Since Trump took office gun sales have declined so any regulation to put any constraint on gun sales will not even make it to a vote. Didn't the Winchester rifle company bankruptcy the other day. Things should be left well enough alone.
First of all, it was only under Trump that bump stocks were used to butcher 56 people.
Bump stocks were permitted by a functionary in the ATF under Obama because they could find nothing in the law prohibiting them. Obama was never consulted on this ruling.

And I'm not sure if the ATF is within it's capacity to finalize this. If this needs to go through legislation then it could be years if it even passes...so it's a nice political move and it plays well.
I've tried an AR15 w/ a bumpstock. I'm pretty liberal when it comes to fire arms, but even I thought it was crazy you could legally purchase this thing. That being said, you can bump fire without the SlideFire stock. Just loop your finger around your belt loop and loosely hold your semi-auto and let the recoil fire for you. Its not accurate at all, but you get the full auto function.
Also, you can still purchase fully automatic weapons. It will be a $200 federal stamp, and at least $5,000 to purchase the fully auto rifle. That is pretty much the cheapest you'll find. A quality fully automatic AR-15 are around $15K-20k and a HK MP5 around $18,500 to $25,000.
So a solution could be just tax the shit out of guns to keep them out of the hands of the poor, like most of the shooters (except Las Vegas guy). But that would be racist.
Two regulations are eliminated???? He should do anything about adding new laws or regulations on gun control. He must stick to his promise people.
