I'll admit it annoys me. Below is a supposedly real post put up on Facebook about someone recently elected as a school board official in Maine. I thought about putting it on the P&R board but it's not really about politics, it's about gender and the way trans people require others to talk about them. They've even got a new name for ME they expect me to use: "Cisgender," meaning I am comfortable accepting the gender into which I was born. Bullshit. Anyway, read on:

"Breaking News: Maine elects first openly transgender official

"Geo Soctomah Neptune (they/them) has become the first openly two-spirit, transgender, and non-binary person to be elected to office in Maine. Geo was elected to the school board in Indian Township Maine. With 155 votes, they were the top vote receiver in the election and one of three candidates elected.
Geo Neptune is a member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe from Indian Township, Maine, and is a Master Basketmaker, a Drag Queen, an Activist and an Educator. As a person who identifies as a two-spirit, an indigenous cultural gender role that is a sacred blend of both male and female, Geo uses they/them gender-neutral pronouns.
About their election the day before voting, Neptune said, “I feel confident saying that I am a person who makes their opinions known, and is not afraid to speak out against injustice when I see it. I care for our culture very deeply, and see the preservation of our language and other traditions for future generations as being my first priority. If working with the other members of the School Board, these would be my focuses when making decisions. Confidence in one's cultural identity translates to confidence in life.”
When Geo graduated from Dartmouth College and returned to the Indian Township reservation, they began to focus heavily on their weaving, and developing their own individual artistic style. Experimenting with their family's signature woven flowers mixed with natural elements of twigs and branches, Geo began forming what would eventually be known as their signature sculptural style of whimsical, elegant, traditionally-informed basketmaking.
“To my knowledge,” Neptune wrote on Facebook, “I am also the first Two-Spirit person to run for any kind of office in our community. I mention this because it is a big part of who I am; being transgender and non-binary is part of who I am, and part of who you would be electing, should you select my name.”
Neptune’s four year school board term begins October 1st, 2020."

A "two-spirit...indigenous cultural gender role that is a shared blend of both male and female, Geo uses they/them gender-neutral pronouns." Well, I hope "they" are very happy with themselves and their new job. I guess it's a good deal for the people of there since they get two public servants for the price of one. Perhaps it will help pay for all the new bathrooms the district will have to install for "them." LMAO.

They don’t expect me to change up my pronoun game. I could give a shit what anyone wants to consider themselves so long as it doesn’t hurt anyone especially children, but I’m not learning all that zim, zer, etc BS. Gay marriage, non-binary unions, gender fluid relationships, have at it. If they or anyone wants to think they’re some sort of hero for doing whatever they’re doing with their gender identification, they can kiss my hetero male ass.

Someone noted this to be the number of available genders at last count on Facebook.  Probably more by now.  Color me stupid.  Here, after all these years, I thought that there were only two.   Boy, am I fucking stupid.

Master Basketmaker, a Drag Queen, an Activist and an Educator, a two-spirit, an indigenous cultural gender role that is a sacred blend of both male and female. From now on we'll refer to you as "them."
Thanks for clarifying.

I told Van about three years ago to NEVER use such a PC term as Cisgender when talking to me.

I am a firm believer in "live and let live" right up until the point where SJW try to change the English Language to suit a minute minority of people who feel marginalized quite frankly because they really are marginal.  Being born in the "wrong body" is hardly what the rest of us would call "normal" if it were, the human species would have died off thousands of years ago.

That said, I don't believe in discriminating against Trans or other similarly sexually "confused" people, they have a right to live their life, love who they want, fuck who they want, without worrying about be beaten or killed, but they do NOT have the right to have billions of people change their language (this is not unique to English) simply to coddle them and make THEM feel like the normal ones. So yes, I do agree with the idiot OP even though he stated his case VERY badly.

I was of the mind, not in my world, let sleeping dogs lay.  Like some of the comments on this post, which I am not being critical of.

Well guess what, the sleeping dogs are howling, showing teeth, and will not accept anything less than a pound of flesh, no matter how enlightened one might be.  I had this happen to me first hand on social media.  Silence the opposition,  stifle them and label them something horrible so thew will retreat and shut up.

I cannot make it any plainer than that. Don't care which party is at fault, it's out there.

I, too, don’t want to worry about what pronoun to use, and calling an individual “they” is so weird. A problem is That in a university setting one can get in trouble for not using an individual’s preferred pronoun when referring to him/her/they — I mean “it”.

I wouldn't survive a week, fuck that, I wouldn't survive an hour in a "university setting" where freedom of speech only extends to "approved" speech by the ruling elites.

and to think I used to hang out on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley way back then with my super liberal friends getting stoned out of our gourds, planning on how we were going to save the world.  Somehow I don't think I would be welcome there anymore. Just like the Puritans way back when, it's ironic how quickly the oppressed become the oppressors.

Plenty of members here are so it's no big deal.

I suppose if "she" really was committed to becoming a woman she'd at least be planning the "snip snip" treatment that would make it permanent. Personally I think Bruce is just an attention whore, but if the OP likes her, who are we to judge?

I agree that I am of the mindset to “live and let live,” but changing the entire English vocabulary to appease a very small minority of people and forcing everyone else to have to use these gender terms or be shamed and ridiculed by the PC crowd is going way too far.

Just like Target opening up their bathrooms for transgender or binary genders and inconveniencing everyone else. I see what looks like a guy going into the women’s restroom at Target that my teenage daughter just went in. I have to wonder, is this person really a transgender type of person or is he/she actually a pedophile pervert who wants to see my teenage daughter sitting on a toilet? Inconveniencing everyone just for the sake of a huge minority is not the way to win their support.
