So Bush arrests a bunch of innocent guys who were plotting to set off bombs in a NYC Subway.  As a very, very smart person made the brilliant point on my earlier thread, "They didn't even have any weapons with them".  More Bush bullshit!

Now the real terrorists bombed trains in India.  Just as they had in Spain and England.  You see!  I told you so!  They're not after us.  They're after other countries.  We don't need to be going out and arresting people or trying to find out what they are up to.  We are totally safe.  It was just a wild coincidence that while these guys were plotting to bomb NYC some other group was bombing India.  These are not related at all!  There is no pattern to this.

I bet you these real terrorists were carrying weapon with them at all times.  I bet they had black headbands and those cool grenades you can attach to your vest.  They probably also had cigar butts in their mouths.  I saw that in a Lee Marvin  movie once.

Anyway, my point is that Bush has nothing to do with the fact that we haven't been attacked again. The terrorists aren't interested in us and all of those guys in jail are extremely innocent and mean us no harm.

PS- I bet you those real terrorists never spoke to anyone overseas and never had any financial transactions worth monitoring.

If they don't have the bombs with them they are innocent.  You see, it is very difficult to get those kinds of things.  Very difficult.  So most real terrorists just have the bombs hanging around them at all times.

Also, you are too interested in getting those terrorists.  What about their civil liberties?  Sure there were approximately 150 murdered, but at least the terrorist's rights weren't trampled on. That is the important thing.  One more overseas monitoring of a call to Yemin and we are all officially Nazis!

There's no evidence that there hasn't been another terrorist attack because of anything Bush has done.  Period.  

The only argument you have is a fallacy-- long recognized as such:  After-this-therefore-because-of-this.  After Bush we had no terrorist attacks, therefore it's because of him.  If you keep making that error, it's no longer just an error, it's a mental illness.  

If there are arrests and/or trials, then I could give Bush credit.  So far, his administration has either made very few arrests, or it has kept the arrests and "disappearances" very secret.  

That's the trouble with government secrecy.  Nobody knows when the government does something right.  If you want him to be given credit, he needs to be less secretive.  

As for Gitmo, I'd like to know just how legitimate and useful those arrests were.  Same with Jose Padilla.  It's always the temptation for a government after a crisis to be seen as doing something-- and the more drastic the better.  I don't believe, given the slip-shod the police/intelligence work was before 9/11, that they just happened to have dossiers laying around for that many guys.  

The arrests recently have been a bunch of guys buying shoes from al-Qaeda.  I exaggerate that for comedy sake, but that about describes it.  They also had this international arrest over the possibility of attack on the Holland Tunnel.  That would be significant.  I'd like to believe it's true, and I'll wait to see what comes out in the investigation.    

The terrorists who got away are the subject of a different thread, because, as I will show, the administration has let a lot of terrorists slide.  

I know if we are finally attacked, you then are not going to say that Bush failed anyway.  So, as it is, the point you made is not only fallicious, it's unfalsifiable.  You have other reasons to believe in Bush, you just have to support him about terror due to those hidden reasons.  

Bush can't prove he's stopping terrorists because he arrests them too early.  He should wait until their is that cool 30 second countdown with a bomb.  I've seen those in movies!  It is very possible that over the last 5 years absolutely no terrorist was interested in hurting the USA.  Very possible! The really cool thing is that we will blame him if something does happen.  And we can also blame Iraq.  It's fun to blame Iraq for literally everything.  

The important thing is we stay out of it.  We must stay on the sidelines and judge.  It's better that we offer no alternatives, since we don't have any.

You are playing a character that does not exist which is why nobody acknowledges it.

My arguments:
I believe that the recent arrests Bush have made are all bullshit.  I think these guys have been railroaded just to make the Bush Admin. look good before the Nov. elections.  These guys were not a threat and do not belong behind bars.

I believe the civil liberties of terrorists is paramount.  That is why I complain chiefly about them and not acknowledge any harm they (the terrorists) may bring to America.

I believe Bush has been systematically taking away our freedoms.  I believe that the monitoring of overseas phone calls and financial transactions is more about expanding his power than actually fighting terrorism.  I can't acknowledge any benefit these programs may bring in fighting terrorism.

Have you not seen these arguments?  Just read the board over before you answer.  If you would like to rebut these arguments because you disagree with them, please feel free.

I still do not agree with your extreme statements. I do agree Bush is taking away our freedoms and is a failure -- however I do not blame America First -- I blame Bush and the Neocons! I love this country (more than they do in my opinion) as embodied in the Constitution Of The United States -- That is the oath Bush took -- to protect and defend the CONSTITUTION of the United States -- Not the borders, Not the Bible, Not the flag and not even the people! He is destroying the consitution while saying he's spreading freedom. He is treasonous -- not the rest of us! It is Bush and his crowd that Hate America -- the fact that they'd like to get rid of much of the constitution and the courts is a prime example -- THEY ARE AUTHORITARIANS and they must be stopped before we slide into a full blown authoritarian state -- we are teetering on the edge right now.
