. . . as a hobbiest who has seen ladies from 3 different agencies over the last several months, but only one more than once.  I am posting this anonymously 'cause I do not necessarily want to receive a direct reply, but would rather the party hosts comment directly on my question for the benefit of all.

I went to the last gathering a few months ago for the purpose of meeting a few of the agency gals, but found it difficult when all of the ladies are sitting in the laps (literally and figuratively) of the same hobbiests/concentrated group of 5 or 6 hobbiests.  Why would I approach that group if I am not a member of "the Board"?  I ended up spending the whole hour and a half taking in a basketball game at the bar and talking to one provider (who was not from Phx. anyway), a receptionist from one of the agencies, and a hot waitress who was intent on finding out WHAT the gathering was really about.

Here is my question:  Is the point of this gathering to grease the wheels with those 12 or so hobbiests who expend inordinate sums on the hobby.  Or is the point is to introduce some of the "new blood" to those of us who partake of the hobby 2-3 times/month (as opposed to 2-3 times/week), then perhaps you can raise the comfort level for hobbiests like me.  If the answer is the both or the latter, then from my own perspective, it is not accomplishing the purpose(s) - you might as well just invite the members of the group.

If you can pass out promotional DVDs, then it seems like you could change the incentives - like sponsor some prize for "Provider I would most like to see, but have not" for the hobbiests to fill-out and to encourage the ladies to actually work the room and get to know everybody - put the names with the TER handles.

I agree with you totally. Since the main purpose of these gatherings is "meet and greet", the ladies should at least attempt to "work the room". Some do it well, others need some improvement.

I understand the need to take care of their best clients, but the at least part of the time should be allotted meeting others.

Thank You Kiss and Tell for your question.  The Event is to give all hobbyist a opportunity to meet all the ladies from all the agencies represented there.  If you are having trouble meeting one of the ladies you came to see just find one of the sponsoring agencies and ask them to introuduce you.  Any of us would be happy to do that.  We ask the ladies to mingle and try to insure they meet everyone.  Hopefully, tonight will provide you a better experience.

We caught the post not long after it came up.  CL staff have remvoed it and it is no longer there.  We are in a public place and are not concerned about any problems from this idiots post.  After the two people who posted on the indy party we knew this one would get a post also.  We have had people monitoring the list to make sure it did not stay up and have emailed CL staff to also please monitor the phoenix board of CL for that very purpose.  A good time will be had by all in attendance tonight.

I too noticed the same in the last party, both agency and indie. I realize that it is human nature to stop and talk to the people you (meaning the ladies) already know and have something in common with, it is much easier to carry on a conversion. But the purpose of these events is to meet new potential for both.

It would be nice for the ladies to remember to mingle and introduce themselves every now and then

It was tough meeting the girls at the early summer party, yet I can't blame the providers or the agencies.

 Naturally the providers are going to gravitate to their existing customers. The existing customers are the ones creating the revenue stream.

  I would go, wait for an opening(If you get one), and introduce yourself to the provider of your dreams. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I know it can get frustrating, but it could be worth the opportunity.

I experienced firsthand recently the truth of those words, allowing opportunity to pass me by at a group function because I wasn't forward enough. I am not overly outgoing by nature, and it cost me a chance at some fun.

Oh well-my choice, my loss, my lesson.

Having been to the last meet and greet of this type, as well as several others over the years, both large and small, I make a few observations-as I'm sure we all have...

People at any social event gravitate toward those they know, and even providers can be a little shy around strangers, despite their vocation. It's one thing behind closed doors, one on one, quite another to be the center of attention of several dozen total strangers, all of whom know far more about the provider than she does about them.

As we all have experienced, it is difficult under these best circumstances to meet new people, especially if you are, for lack of a better word, shy, particularly around all these stunning women.

Like me.

My advice, for the upcoming soiree, as well as anytime you attend an event where hobbiests and providers come together-get out there-whether you are the former or the latter.

I have to believe that the point of these events is exactly what you say, for hobbiests and providers to meet each other in a non sales situation they may never get the chance to have otherwise. It's certainly easier and more cost effective for agencies to cater to their small group of regulars than this.

So swallow hard, and start shaking hands. Meet hobbiests, singularly or in their little "groups", have your new hobbiest friends introduce you to their provider friends (incidentally, I have found this is a great way to get some of the burden of "verification" out of the way, and to break the ice with an agency you haven't used before). Mingle-force yourself to walk up and say "hi"....I know I have to force myself off the bar rail at these kind of things-it's a little intimidating, the "public" thing-maybe for the girls as much as if not more than some of us less outgoing guys.

I know this is advice I will try to take to heart tonight, lest I miss another opportunity to "make" a new friend.

Not a direct reply to you, or your specific question, but maybe it's helpful in some general way. It was for me, anyway-I hope I take my own advice.
