Good article by Joe Dana of 12 News at
Desert Divas profits a mirage?

http://www.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/2009/05/27/20090527prostitutionring05272009-CR.html

I posted my response:
Such a waste of money chasing in private consenting adults.

In private consenting adult prostitution is legal and no big deal in almost all the world except the U.S. - Canada a close example. Women in charge of their own business not like the pimp houses in Nevada at outrageously high prices. The Supreme Court ruled in Lawrence Vs Texas the laws can not be based on "morality" and the govt has no business in our private sexuality.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with children, trafficking, street hookers, or health issues. Professional sexworkers are far safer than picking up a women in a bar. In almost all the world where its legal no medical issues related to in private consenting adult sexwork.

Some women encourage their husbands to go to pros so no emotional risk when the man often seeks sex and the women has lost interest. Sexuality variety is also desired my many.

Not a thing wrong with "common prostitution" in the bible, only the goddesses worshiping the fertility gods - Idolatry was the sin not prostitution. A man could have as many wives and concubines as he could afford and was never wrong.

to get the principles to turn on each other, thinking that they were each holding out on each other.

i think it's a pretty typical strategy

Called "BIG STORY" on 5pm news.

Mostly what was in the article but of course with video.

Ending with emphasis that police aren't primarily after the money but the criminal enterprises of prostitution.

They love that kind of money.  Because they get to do anything they can think of with it.  Not least of all stashing a few bills in their pocket.

They target the people who they think they can get money from first.

That is why they have a morality war.  Drugs etc.

Don't see giant tasks forces looking for kids that disappear.  Bet if they received a million dollars for recovered kids they would find them.

Not that they don't care about kids but no profit to buy new cars with finding a kid.

If the money went into the general fund for the government the police would care less about what was collected.

I agree that it took guts for Joe [Dana] to run with this story, especially because his dad's station has been sucking this story dry for months. Here's an angle that wasn't mentioned: Now that we know there was not a huge pot of money, does that make some of you look differently at the county attorney's claim that the girls who worked there were exploited?

The reality is that this operation probably did do $250,000 a month in business, but most of it went to overhead. THE GIRLS EARNED IT! Many of these young ladies were supporting children or attending college on the money they made there. They were paying taxes on six-figure earnings.. The business was paying taxes. Congratulations, Phoenix PD and Maricopa County attorney: You just ruined 90-or-so lives, and you accomplished NOTHING for our society except...

1. Driving a bunch of lonely, unsatisfied guys to look elsewhere for companionship and satisfaction (places where getting it is probably a lot less safe to them and their relationships/families.)
2. Putting a lot of young ladies out of work and leaving them with a record that will make new jobs less likely (thus increasing the likelihood they'll qualify for public benefits.)
3. Depriving the city, state and county of the tax revenues this business and its employees paid, at a time when we're laying off vital public employees.

Wake up, people. This operation was an example of how the legalization of paid intimacy between consenting adults, in a well-managed setting, can be a benefit to society. This entire prosecution has resulted in a huge net loss for our community. Shame on Phoenix PD and the County Attorney for all the money they spent on it.

Totally agree on the loss for Phoenix. My sister is a travel agent outside of Arizona. She has just recieved a mailer from a travel advisary group warning business travelers to avoid Phoenix due to the high crime and the strict moral laws which are strictly being enforced . With over 50% of DD clients being out of town you know they will never return and probably take their conventions with them.
