Lessons learned.......

Based on a number of recent posts I thought I'd throw this out.....

Human interaction is often a complex and frustrating undertaking. A couple of general ideas can help an awful lot.....

1) ASK

I am amazed at the number of times I see smart dedicated people make often life changing decisions based on assumptions. We often read the tealeafs a bit to soon in life and act too fast. Take a moment, take a breath...and ask before you assume....

2) TALK...

People are not mind readers, how is somebody supposed to know what your thinking if you dont TELL them. You'd be suprised how often your "happiness quotient" goes up just by saying whats on your mind.

3) LISTEN...

Human interaction is like playing catch, only one side has the ball at a time. To many people worry about what they want to say next and dont really give the other persons thoughts full attention...

COMMUNICATE....

When you combine the 1st three you get a chance to  actually make progress in building a true relationship.

All this is relevent in our little hobby but is really gleaned from almost 30 yrs of helping folks under stress ay crisis points in their lives.

All the Best

Edited since I cant type...or spell:)

Yep, good post and people aren't mind readers as I learned from a prior post of yours, where you seem to think that I haven't "earned respect" I don't give my services to the "local boys" I only take care of out of towners which is totally wrong but glad to know finally where you were coming from and one just recently where I received an apology for being called Den Mother and a grudge being held for something that really didn't matter, it's never to late to communicate.  All these issues would have been better taken care of by doing the communications and better relationships could have been enjoyed.

I couldn't agree more ASK-TALK-LISTEN do equal great communication.

I admire and respect people with these qualities, these people would rather get there information from the horses mouth than rely on what someone else said.

Terri

I have never had an "issue" with you...hell I dont even know you:). For some reason you seem to feel that some of my posts were directed at you...when they weren't. That doesnt mean that I haven't had issue with various posts and positions you've taken. But I always try and argue the merits of the position....not attack the person.

I'm just replying to a post about communications and you did make that comment about me and "respect" and if dialog would have been better you would have know that I am a home town girl... nothing more nothing less about my comment dealing with communication!

That's usually what  I do too is argue the merits of my position as well, really everyone does here usually!!!
Good Communication constitutes good relationships whether it be on a friendship or intimate level!
