an interesting statistic

I read an interesting statistic that stated that 1% of American women have been providers at one time or another in their life.  Pretty astonishing isn't it.  This may be more than the smokers that still admit to smoking.  This got me thinking that hobbiests and providers should lobby for a .com extension that more fully takes their profession into account.  My first thought was .pty (party) and then it came to me .cum would be more appropriate.  Other countries use .com and a further extension like .com cn (for China).  Now it starts to get interesting.  If all of the providers who have websites used a .cum extension and the ones in Arizona use . cum az think about how much easier it would be to find them.  A goggle search would work wonderfully.  It's scary, it might put 411 out of business.  If the perverts used .pvt and the gays used .gay you could -these extensions on the search and find just what you were looking for.  If all the trashy sites had to use the extension .tsh (trash) and the other extensions were in place what a wonderful world it would be.  Condom manufacturers would be able to find their most lucrative targets.  The prudes could program their computers so the sites wouldn't come up.  Customers could easily find what they are looking for.  I may be wrong but it's only my opinion.

ICANN has proposed a few new TLDs two of which were ".sex" and ".xxx" as designations for adult content sites, another, for family friendly or safe for children sites, was ".kids.us".  All were proposed with the idea of keeping adult material from children and others.

The arguments against the ".sex" and ".xxx" suffixes has been by those fearing it would legitimise pornography and allow it be easier for those offended by the same to be innundated with links, spam, etc from site with either suffix. (I guess they never heard of a HOSTS file).

That is one of the things which brought about the idea of the ".kids.us".  With the thought that browsers could be programed to go only to the ".kids.us" sites.  (Personally I always thought any sort of ".kids" TLD was a bad idea, it would be like a big neon sign for sick bastards to find where children are...and thr concept that someone could make a browser that only went to those sites, have it coded into the browser by default seemed a less wise idea than blocking certain suffixes through a browser and hosts file.)

The most compelling argument against the ".sex" and ".xxx" TLD was that adult sites could not be required to use them, and that many would not.  Durring a time when the administration has the FBI looking at porn sites and arguments are made about making adult site seem "legitimate" I don't think most would bring any extra scrutiny or attention to themselves by using such a domain.  I would also think most ladies would shy away from that as it would be a bit of the antithesis of discreet.

As to your suggestions, I doubt ICANN would ever OK ".cum" (a touch crude perhaps), ".gay" would most likely not get an ok either with the firestorm over gay marriage and same sex partner benefits and such, it would be an open invitation to those that have way to much invested in another's life and lifestyle.  The idea for a "trash" designation is interesting but, it wouldn't be ".tsh" it would have to be ".trs" as anyone who ever had occassion to use TRS-80 can tell you TRS = Trash.

Now if you are in a position to ask the ICANN for a new TLD for the hobby I might suggest ".pro" short for provider, and the slang of a lady being a "pro" has been around a long time...though I would expect you'd probably get athletes, and other professionals like accountants and lawyers applying for the domains too, which could be bad...I mean if you're looking for a provider and accidently find a lawyer...as lawyers may screw ya...they tend to not kiss ya first.  *smirk*

Another issue with the creation of more TLDs is due to the way that Trademark law works, a trademark holder needs to aggresively defend their claim to it. This means that corporations basically have to register their trademark with every TLD to prevent squatters from negating their protected status.

How do you think Redmond would feel about having Microsoft.gay or Microsoft.sex? (but I was looking for limp midget porn!)
