Pardon my ignorance, but I am from out of town and I have no idea what KOP stands for -- I did a search of the discussion Board and came up with literally hundreds of hits.  Any info appreciated.

King of Prussia.

He was a big patron of Voltaire. Voltaire's philosophies were of major interest to Ben Franklin and others. Voltaire is one of the main reasons that we have freedom of religion in this country. Both he and the KOP were not religious at all. The concept behind the freedom of religion is that if you make them all equal that makes them all equally unimportant, thus you keep religious people neutalized.

How was that answer?

"Those who can make you believe absurdities
can make you commit atrocities."  Voltaire.

Wow! Good response! I didn't think that I would be discussing Voltaire on this board. However, the King of Prussia is a different matter. He was an extremely sexually active homosexual that nver met an orgy he didn't like. He had a bit of a crush on Voltaire, and was jealous, so Voltaire had to get away from him. He was wise enough to like girls, of a certain nature.

I hope that this has been an educational experience folks! Please feel free to use that bit of info about America and religion in your future debates.

There was a whole line of rulers in the 18th and 19th centuries who had the title King of Prussia, granted to the electors of Brandenburg by the Treaty of Utrecht (1713). The one discussed here who was friends with Voltaire was Frederick the Great (1740-86), who built up his army, used it to attack Austria three times to gain territory (Silesia), and participated in the partition of Poland. For building up German power, he was later much admired by Adolf Hitler, who kept a large portrait of him on his wall. Frederick was known as an "enlightened despot" for studying the 18th century philosophers, fraternizing with Voltaire until their breach, and using his power to make reforms for the people. KOP, Pa., now the site of the large mall and many hotels where hobbyists go to meet ladies, was named for their ruler by Prussians who first settled there in the 18th century.

Given the backround info on the illustrious King and his buddy Voltaire it's ironic that K.o.P. would become the hot spot for visiting providers!! Funny how some things just seem to be a perfect fit..Also might explain why Blue Ball,Pa, does'nt get much activity.(Although I hear Intercourse is a good place to visit)!

I don't think anybody meant any rudeness to you on this thread.  But Macy is right - this was the funniest group of postings in a long, long time.  None of the usual morons who usually dumb-down this board jumped in, most likely because they couldn't wade through words longer than one syllable.  So, don't take it personally.  KOP is a fine place to meet ladies, just outside the city to the west.  However, there is a huge mall there and it's nuts during the holidays with traffic.  So if you need it BAAAADDDD, leave early so you get there on time.

What's most important is WHY KoP has become such a hot place...  As hobbyists, we dedicate funds for gifts and Center City will cost us at least an additional $20 to park, not to mention unforseeable traffic jams (screwing up everyone's timing) and general hassles.  KoP is tons of free parking at every hotel, the area's best mall, fine dining (ok, acceptable dining...) and easy access to highways.  Why go anywhere else ?
