No, Shadowdancer, I am not married and I have no children. Family refers to my Mother, Father, older brother, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, And cousins. Please educate me: what is bartle doo?
The pathology report is back from the colonoscopy I had on Christmas Eve and it shows the tumor is indeed malignant. Couldn't be easy, right? So, the battle is about to be rejoined. In any case, I am not deterred and we will not be defeated. I have spoken to the oncologist earlier this afternoon and he is ordering a CAT Scan of the entire abdomen area, though the only thing that showed earlier this month showed nothing except this thing in the colon. After that, so long as the upcoming CAT Scan shows that it is indeed located only in the colon, the procedure looks to be fairly simple, especially when compared to the lung cancer we already have defeated. The oncologist says it's not a metastatic result of the lung cancer, saying if it is it's the first time I ever saw it. And the prognosis of full recovery looks good, also. Lots of questions remain to be answered, but one thing is clear: there is no room for defeat as we move on to the next chapter of this story, a story where the last chapter is already written: WE WIN!!! As I find out more, I will keep you all apprised of the situation.
You beat lung cancer, a hard one; you will defeat this one. Colon cancers are often resectable as you know, but I have seen patients with mets to their livers have the mets shrunk to the degree that they could be successfully resected. Keep us posted please and PM me any time.
Thanks, doc. There is no possibility of defeat. We will win, again. Like Herman's Hermits sang back in the '60's:
"Second verse; same as the first!"
29 seconds into the attached video clip.

Carlton..you mention in our Thanksgiving note about family...you married..have kids?? just curious
also have you ever tried bartle doo?

as Doc said - colon responds to Rx.... lung cancer - not so much - so you've already beaten the odds....
keep us all posted! after all, gotta get you to 2010...
Thanks, BSD. My faith is beyond being shaken by this. My feeling is likewise, that there are far greater percentages in my favor dealing with a contained colon cancer (I am trusting that the PET Scan from earlier this month was accurate to this end and the upcoming CAT Scan will back this) than many other types, that this can be removed (in relative terms) with ease. We did it before and we can do it again.
CarltonS, I'm very sorry to hear that news.
It saddens me to see a good guy go throught this.
you are no doubt a real fighter so I'm confident you will beat this one too.
Wiil keep you in my prayers.
Thank you
XLIII = 4
Carlton,
I just admire your positive additude. You have a strong will and that will get you far.
I wish you the very best and will keep you in my prayers.
Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us, may we all learn from your additude and strength.
Hugs to you,
Tori
Thanks, Tori. Some bullies go away after a good beating, some need to get smacked around twice. Colon cancer is a danger because it often goes unattended due to their being a relative lack of symptoms; I really had none. I observed increased bowel movements when I drank a cup of morning coffee and when I stopped drinking it I was pretty much regular again. I only know of it because of the testing done from the lung cancer, and the results of the subsequent colonoscopy. Folks, if I may make a public-service statement, take care of yourselves. Talk to your doctor and ask him or her about a colonoscopy and colon cancer. It's painless (the drugs they shot me up with left me knocked out completely without any memory of it; I think they used a varient of a date rape drug) and the prep stage the day before is a bit odd (they gotta clean you out, after all) but if you've ever had a stomach virus, this is not nearly as bad as that, and it's only about half a day. Get it done and make sure. If you are a smoker, stop. Small-cell lung cancer (mine was non-small-cell) is far more aggressive, far more deadly, and far more apt to attack a smoker. It initially looks like a flu that will not go away, so the symptom is very innocent-looking. I watch a friend deal with it; he was diagnosed about the same time as I was. He lasted about six months, and was fighting as hard and with the same attitude as mine. Don't risk the one thing we cannot afford to lose - your life.

Hang in there. Colon cancer caught early is easily defeated with surgery. If your oncologist does not believe it is as a result of the lung cancer metastasizing, then it may well be a very early (Stage 1 ) tumor.
I had a rectal resection doen 3 years ago and was fortunate that it was detected early and still in Stage 1 so no chemo or radiation was necessary. Surgery removed it and several lymph nodes and have been cancer free since.
Thanks, Pressure. He said that if it was a case of lung cancer metastasizing to the colon, it was the first he had ever seen or heard of (generally it works the other way, colon cancer metastasizing to the lungs), and he's not a rookie, being connected with Fox-Chase and all. Considering the result of the December 4 PET Scan only showed this thing, I am confident that this is indeed a stage 1 item and will be a part of history in short order. There is certainly no room for defeat here, and we will indeed win again.
