I posted this question as a subset to a question on Screening but wanted to try to make sure I got an answer for my direct quesion.

I am a new provider and new on TER and am wondering what the best verification site might be? I've heard mixed reviews about DateCheck, and don't want to pay for a service unless it is actually worth while.  I'm working a little with an agency (which DOESN'T screen all that well) and I'm doing indepedent work (my own incall coming soon -fingers crossed) and feel the need to re-screen the agency referrals and also screen ones coming straight to me.  

I haven't had any trouble so far, but the recent busts have me more and more nervous....

Any suggestions?

I signed up for date-check and p411 about two months ago and I have never paid for their services.  I think they might have a trial period (that I'm still on).  You should definitely join both and see what works for you.

Here's the scoop:  who cares the most about your personal safety?  You or some business that can't be sued because they're possibly helping you do something illegal?

I do my own screening.  I use the internet and the phone book.  Some services on the net I have to pay for, but I can afford it.  Hell, I can't afford NOT to.  Be smart.  Don't be afraid to ask a fellow for the info you need.  Don't ever see a guy you aren't sure about.  

It takes some experimentation to find the best websites.  Just play around and figure out a routine that works.  Good luck!

There are some good screeners out there who work for indys. Not sure what area you are in but I do know a couple in my area, just pm if you would like to get in touch with them.

They do have a trial period, however they will add to your trial period everytime you see and verify a hobbyist there. Also I think they add to your time if you refer a new provider as well. I do know several providers who have never had to pay by staying active in their site.

Thank you all who offered helpful suggestions on who to use and even how you do it yourself.  I just finished registering with preferred411 and Date Check but since I have no reviews and no providers to vouch for me I think I'm going to get denied on preferred411 (at least there email made it sound that way). We'll see about Date Check since I gave my whole life story and filled out almost every single interview question. Whew. time for me to hit the hay now.

By the way, I'm in Atlanta. I asked on that board also.
