What is an agency, really?

Just a basic newbie question...

A couple of local agencies appear to be well run businesses. An employee to screen and set up appointments. Nice local incalls for their "independent contractors" to work.

But if this is an illegal enterprise and law enforcement wants to break up the business, this seems like an easy thing to do. They have a phone number. The agency is not hiding who is associated with it. In fact they do everything to promote who they are. It can't be that hard to find the incalls.

Yet they continue to be going concerns.

Hey, I'm glad that these businesses exist. I just don't understand.

Am I missing something here?

screening their customers and being as discreet as possible. Indies also have phone numbers, etc., so I'm not quite sure what you're asking here.

LE can't just break up a business because they suspect illegal activity. (At least they're not SUPPOSED to be able to.) Escorting isn't against the law. Prostitution is. LE needs to establish a case that can be proven in court. Agencies and escorts alike "do it" by making it too difficult for LE to make a case against them.

Or, no doubt, some of them the pay the cops off, one way or another.

Good point about what's the difference between indies and agencies. I guess when you get down to it, it is a matter of scale. It wouldn't take any more effort to bust an agency and all associated with it than it would to bust an indie. But you get a bigger bust.

Sort of like bowling. If there is only one pin standing, you can just get one pin. But if there are ten, you can get a strike.

All this is just near pointless musing by me. I have only had one hobbyist experience. It was with an indie. If someone told me I she was the only person I would hobby with the rest of my life, that would be fine. But I am considering trying an agency. But it seems a little weird to go into a place where there are multiple ladies and multiple guys in multiple rooms. The indie route where it is just me and one lady in one place seems right.

I don't. And there are many men in my area who wished they hadn't.

You have AMPs, massage joints (often rip offs), bookers, PAs, any and all of which may be booking multiple providers, securing incall locations, handling screening. Some of the ladies present themselves as indies, while others present themselves as working for agencies, but the main operational difference may simply be the online marketing approach.

It sounds like you are considering going somewhere that is operating more like a brothel, or at least a massage parlor offering happy endings and more. If it is a storefront, is advertising, then the best bet is that it is a rip off, taking money and probably offering nothing more than a somewhat intimate massage, possibly even completely legal, if not very satisfying. Assuming this is somewhere prostitution is illegal, it is not something I would do. Between the LE and rip off risks, I would stick to indies or agencies that work as bookers without a fixed location.

I mostly avoid agencies altogether, but more because I can find good providers on my own and feel I have a little more control of things, than because I am worried about something bad happening (I used to feel that way, but no longer think that quality agencies offer any added risk, and they do offer choice and convenience).

Hope that helps.

Back on the main newb page, upper right corner.  Today, many police departments are woefully under funded and unless there are complaints by private citizens, our type of escorting is a low priority for LE
LE prefers to go after the low hanging fruit, the street walkers at the local stroll. Not an indie working out of an upscale hotel or upscale apartment/condo complex. Google Miami Companions or Desert Divas for examples of what went wrong with agencies.  See well reviewed providers and you should be ok.  However, there are no dead solid locks in this hobby.

The only time that I've used an agency was when I had an in that provided for screening by means alternate to providing personal data.  On top of the very high profile bust in Phoenix that you refer to, there have been several others.  Independents get popped all the time but it's usually just a girl being careless.  Agency busts almost always involve felony charges and access to customer lists.  I recall the DD list being several hundred pages long.  It had lots of fake names and repeats with spelling differences.  I recognized one name of a business associate that I didn't know hobbied.  I never used it to my advantage, but there may come a day.  He's a guy of significant means with a wife that would love to take the Bentley in a nasty divorce.  I doubt that I could ever rat the guy out, but someone else might not be so nice.

just wondering,
what if there are 100 other people with the same name in your city?
