Have been working as a full time indy provider for a short while now, after quitting the local strip club. Used to dance for years. Always told my family I bartended, but my friends knew I stripped.
Anywho, now that I am not a stripper, what do I tell my friends and family I am doing? Bartenders (nor strippers) do not get calls and have to go out at odd times, nor are their schedules as flexible as mine is now. And I never traveled to other cities to work with those previous jobs.
So I need a "cover job" I can tell my fam and friends that I do. It should be something they are not going to be too interested in so they don't ask me about it a lot. Any ideas would be really appreciated!!

I would sell something boring and business related that no one in your family is even slightly interested in.

Your new job requires travel, meeting clients, going to networking events, etc.

The key is what do you sell? That should match your skill set, personality and be as boring as watching paint dry...

Also, you should be "almost truthful". Be a self employed, independent rep for somebody so you even have literature as a cover.

Many ladies are "models", but I can't say that somebody won't ask to see your portfolio.  You'll have pictures for your advertising, but they'll ask where it's been published.  Depending on your professional expertise, business consulting is a good catch all.  It is a vague term, but prepare for someone to press the issue.  I suppose that you could travel to bars, sharing the knowledge you learned as a "bartender" to those who believed that, and travel to strip clubs that knew that much.

There's always a personal assistant position, that causes you to always have a phone by your side, keep odd hours, and travel occasionally.  I'm certain that the important person you assist doesn't want his/her name mentioned.

In any of these, the key is to think through the questions that will come up, and be prepared with a reasonable response.  Many times, ladies just say to hell with it, and tell people that they are escorts.  It's not a decision to be taken lightly, but I do know of a handful of people that have done it successfully, and are happy to get out from under the lies.  Even with that, be prepared for LOTS of questions.

I like the term "life coach"-it's rather catchy!!

How about working for a Temp agency?

You signed up with Kelly Temp (or whomever) to do only part-time jobs so your schedule would vary, you won't have details on the employers, maybe the employers request some degree of discretion so you are not allowed to talk about for whom and what work your performed...

You could say (if the roomy was a cool lie)
you were a live in maid/pet sitter/driver.
You might need an older roomy to make this believable, preferable one who travels...

Otherwise maybe you work for a large corporation (one they wont ask for discounts at) at its call center, or do online auctions for something boring from home.
Maybe say you're a "ghost shopper", who writes reviews of restaurants & retailers...Gives ya an excuse to explain all your nice things

Could you say that you are a professional mourner or a professional confidant whom people call to discuss their innermost feelings with? You could also say that they say things to you that they wouldn't discuss with their friends or significant others?  When they ask about the phone you can say that you have a nationally based business that demands that you have to be available to a few clients that are in other time zones.

I have this same problem.  I was in the hobby as a provider 11 years ago, but I worked for an agency.  I just told everyone the truth.  Then I took time away to pursue other interests and have recently returned as an indy, I am currently "temping" and I think, will later be working for a crisis outreach program helping women, children & men in crisis - of course all detailed information is confidential.
You could always be an assistant 'events coordinator'?  That brings up another question, as for the providers that take cc, they have to come up with something, although there is nothing illegal with escorting.  But I imagine the billing is an acronym of some vague sort??

Since you had already talked about bartending in the past, telling you are part of a cattering service would not raise much curiosity.  That job can excuse a variable or unusual  schedule and allows you to be mostly anywhere at mostly anytime
