TER Info is One Data Point

I believe TER can provide useful information in screening.  If a TER member has been whitelisted by multiple providers, it means that he has had successful encounters these providers in the past.  If a TER member has a decent number of reviews over a reasonable period of time, it means that he is probably a genuine member of the community and not a cover for someone with an agenda other than a good time between consenting adults.  If the member is a regular poster on the boards here, you can get a sense of the person from how they behave (at least from posts not submitted under an alias).

TER won't tell you if the person is unpleasant or difficult.  Other screening techniques - especially one's instinct, based on how they contact you and interact with you in setting up the appointment - should be equally important.   There are a lot of experienced providers who can provide advice on screening procedures, and I suspect TER would be deemed by them to be just one tool among several options.

I am relatively new to this world and am still learning the ropes.  To this point I have only seen clients that are either RS2K or Date-Check verified.  I have had a few gentlement contact me through TER looking to arrange appointments.  I ask if they are members of either of those sites and some are not.  Is it 'safe' to screen them using TER whitelists?  How else should I screen them?  Or should I just stick with my current policy??

like one provider has said..whitelists can be skewed..some whitelist clients because he gave them an excellent review..the guy could have been a jerk in reality..my advice is to sign up as a provider on preferred 411..they will walk you through the process..once there you will get a better picture of any future clients..they are reliable and trustworthy..you will probably get more responses too..they are very thorough and look out for you..that is really what you want..be safe..protect yourself..

Use all the resources available to screen your clients.  Look at his reviews, if he has a lot, the whitelist refs mean something.  If he only has 1 or 2, the w/l may not mean that much.  Check to see if he belongs to any of the verification sites, that will help.  If you are a VIP member, you can PM the ladies that he reviewed.....

Use all the resources available.

Many times a reference doesn't respond to verify a guy right away, so seeing that she whitelisted him on TER verifies that she did see him and is saying he is okay to see if there isn't time to do traditional reference checking.

It is important to look up your references and whitelists as well as okays on Date-check and Preferred411 to make sure that the provider saying that the guy is okay to see is legit herself (you can check to see how many reviews she has... providers usually need to have several good reviews to be Date-check or Preferred411 members... but you still shouldn't trust their provider screening completely for your safety).

If a guy has 3 TER whitelist referrals from providers with 10 or more reviews each (spanned over a long period of time and by reviewers with numerous reviews), he is probably okay to see without any additional screening. But, if there is only one or two whitelist referrals or he has 5 and they all only have one or two reviews each, you may want to do some additional screening to feel safe. So, how legit the whitelist referral is has everything to do with how legit the provider who gave it is. There is no cut and dry rule here. You can create your own standards for what you will accept as a legit reference. These examples above are just that, examples.

But if you are prebooking or have time to do traditional screening, I would still contact the reference to verify him even if she whitelisted him. It's really about your peace of mind and being able to feel safe, relaxed and comfortable. You both will have a better time if you feel good about seeing the guy so reference checking is worthwhile if you have time to do it even if he has a lot of whitelist referrals.

It can't hurt and you may make a new friend when you contact the reference!

It should be fine to use TER as a screening device. If someone has a lot of reviews and whitelists, that should be a good reference. If someone has only two reviews and two whitelists then you might want to do additional screening. You have to screen to your comfort level. The important thing is if you are using TER as a reference, to make sure they are who they say they are. Make sure they contact you through TER PM. It does sound like that is what you are talking about by your OP. But just be sure that is the case. For example anyone can email you and say they are perfectstorm, or swimtreker, from TER, but only perfectstorm, or swimtreker can contact you through their TER account. To be more comfortable you can always contact the ladies who whitelisted, or were reviewed by the member.

I also don't buy the line that whiltelists could be given to bad hobbyists for writing good reviews. Would a provider really whitelist a problem client for writing her a good review? Makes no sense, as it is a safety issue for other providers as well as a reputation issue for her. And if their are some unscrupulous providers that may do that, then what is to stop them from giving a date check or p411 ok for a good review? I think the verification services, and whitelisting here are all worth about the same as far as screening methods. Take it for what it's worth.

Thanks everybody for your input.  At this point I may use TER as a 'back up' screening method, but certainly not the primary method, especially if the person does not have much of a history on here.  I will have to check into Preferred411.  I keep hearing about that on the boards and it sounds useful.
