If you have no references you can still get a P411 or perhaps Date-Check Verification. That will help getting in the door with newbie friendly providers. They will need to verify employment, but it's very discreet and you shouldn't be worried about it.
FJ - I had no references when I started and I was very successful in seeing providers that were on my "to do" list. What you must to when starting out in this way is (via email) to give the person all the pers info you can, describe yourself briefly, but as fully as you can and send a photo. I would then follow up a few days later with a "can I provide you with anymore info" note. Sure, you will strike out a few times, but keep getting up to the plate. Once you get on the TER radar, it will become easier.
One thing that has not been mentioned, do not give out any information that you are not comfortable with. For example, if you are the governor of South Carolina, do not give them the address/phone of the governor's mansion.
read the boards the newbie manual learn how all this works what some ladies ask for if you are verifiable in other ways. Join a refs site like p411 or date check rs2000 or all three. Do your homework. You wouldn't go about buying a car without looking into what was required and doing your homework first, well this is just like that but tricky as well. Learn what you need to know, terms and so on.
