My advice? Get a P411 membership, get the paid membership here, see a well-reviewed (here)newbie friendly provider or two who list on p411 (to get around being new and not having references) and you'll be happy. Seeing someone off BP (unless she's well reviewed here... some quality gals do advertise on BP) as a newbie is a recipe for disaster.
I've been curious about this realm for a few months, and started browsing BP in the cities I travel to, just to see what's around, what scams look like, etc.
A week or so ago I responded via email to a BP post from someone presenting herself as a college student, looking for a generous gentleman to help her through a rough time. We've emailed back and forth, she's given me a few details about herself, and I'm wondering what I might be able to do to minimize my risk if I wanted to meet up. Since she's not an experienced provider, she's amenable to a meet and greet at a bar of my choosing before making any further decisions. So my question is how one should approach this situation to ensure safety and discretion. Any thoughts from the experienced members of the boards would be much appreciated.

Use TER review search for some 18-19 or 20-25 ladies in your area and do the research. And keep asking questions here. Much cheaper than getting robbed or paying a lawyer.
