Sometimes, the message I'm responding to is stale by the time my message appears. How long or how many replies are necessary before I can post "real-time"?

Usually a couple of months.  However, you can PM Girl Next Door requesting that you become unmoderated.  I did that, never did hear back from her, but did become unmoderated.  Not sure if it was the request or just time

... and is ultimately the decision of the moderator of your 'home' board.

Not all mods use the same criteria, since there are differences in moderating style and allowed content.  But in general, the moderator usually wants to get some feel for (and comfort with) your posting style before setting you loose.  This may require a certain amount of time, a certain amount of posts, a combination of both, or other criteria.

Your best bet is to PM your local board moderator and ask to be unmoderated.

Thanks for the advise, it's kind of frustrating, because everyone's on to the next topic when my post finally hit's like a day or so later....
I'm specifically referring to the General Discussion  forum.

Girl Next Door moderates the General Discussion board, and usually defers unmoderation of members to the appropriate regional board moderator.  RCProNo1 is the moderator for the Florida board.

I'd advise to first build up your posting history, and then send a PM to RCProNo1 with a cc: to Girl Next Door.

When I joined TER last year, I posted quite a bit. After a couple of weeks, I wrote the admin, not the moderator, and requested to be unmoderated; they rejected it. But 2-3 days later I was unmoderated. I'm not sure if my request and the unmoderation were related.

Being moderated is quite frustrating as noted above. I lost my unmoderated provileges a short while back due to posting under different aliases on the same thread. I wasn't aware of the rule but "ignorance of the law is apparently not a defense".

Anyway, I wasn't aware that the regional moderators are usually the ones who free you from prison.

I am a little confused however. Is the general discussion board a regional board or are you talking about the "by state" boards? I look at the Texas board most days but rarely post on it because it seems to be principally personal adds.

How do you find out who moderates the regional boards (i.e. The Texas Board) if that is what you are referring to?
