HIV can't survive long in saliva, so to catch it from DATY you'd have to have some bleeding gums or other route for the virus to enter your body. I think the lack of concern is based on it's relatively hard to catch HIV from oral activities. No, it's not perfectly safe, but it's a lot more fun than using a dental dam.
i'm a newbie, and when reading reviews have been curious...it would seem that many providers and customers are not concerned with unprotected DATY...which, leaves one vulnerable to contracting STDs, specifically herpes or HIV/AIDS. is it just me, or is there a general lack of concern for that particular practice? thanks for the input.

This topic has been discussed many times. I just spoke to someone in the medical field. First off there is no documented cases of contracting Aids through oral sex. Not to say that it can't happen. But that virus just doesn't survive well in saliva. That being said, if you or the provider has open sores or bleeding gums (don't brush your teeth before doing), then there is more of a risk. The risk of getting the other STDs is higher with unprotected sex, again more if you or the provider has open sores in mouth or genital area. Again the risk is small. Obviously you don't want to be doing these activities with anyone that is infected..
