moderators to be able to see at a glance which posts need to be checked, and/or have been checked. This doesn't really mean anything since there are no board moderators any more. TER did away with them a couple years ago. Board Admin mods the boards now. If you notice the black is somtimes bold, sometimes not. I don't remember the time segments but something like it's bold black for 24 hours then red for a similar time then back to black but not bold. That's probably not accurate but you get the idea.

The different bullets help you keep up with which post the poster is replying to in a long discussion.
