I am new to the hobby and in an area that has lots against it for this hobby.  I live in ND where 95% of the providers are traveling and stay for 1 to 4 days.  I have not found a local provider that hits my buttons.   I have been into the hobby for a couple months and am not sure if what I am doing is right and safe.

My first concern is that I cannot find reviews on any of the providers visiting the area.  Most come from the Minneapolis area.  The best I can do is a search of their phone numbers in different formats.  I can usually find a trail on backpage or cityvibe of recent activity.  I still get nervous about the authorities.  Anything else I can do to reduce risk?

With almost every provider being traveling, it is hard to schedule in advance.  I try to call at least a couple hours ahead to set up time since most don't even know if they will be there the next day.  My problem comes in that most are not ready when our arranged time comes.  I have been forced to sit in a parking lot for 45 min waiting to get the hotel and room number, "can you wait half an hour since I just got food", and several who do not answer or call back at all.  I understand juggling a schedule when you don't know where you will be tomorrow is hard but I am only meeting up with about 30% of scheduled appointments.  With the few I find that I feel safe even calling, it is getting frustrating.

I have enjoyed the few who have met the criteria above and have seen.  I got up sold once but not outrageously so I just took it out of her tip since she deceived me to start.

I know I am very limited from where I live. Any advice or tips would be helpful.   Do I need to wait till I travel to a bigger city like Minneapolis or Winnipeg where I can find safer and more reliable service?  What can I do to make sure I am as safe as possible where I am at?  My biggest fears are a stings or just flat out getting robbed once we meet up.

There is a forum called thedakotaboard.com where many ladies advertise strictly for your area, so try there and then look on TER for reviews. The locals hang on that board though, so might be your best bet if you want a regular in the area. You could try the "other" section for reviews here as well.

Well, as you mentioned, North Dakota isn't a haven for providers to visit due to low population and lack of business. It doesn't mean it's "dead".

All it means is that your opportunties will be slim and that will make your "job" that much harder to find a reliable and safe provider.

You'lve mentioned that you have had experiences where you were forced to wait or were a victim of upselling. Both are NOT good things! If a provider just got food and she KNOWS that she has a session coming up, why is she doing that to you? It doesn't make sense. It's POOR decisions by the provider and it should be reported in your reviews.

Booking appointments in advance isn't all that great as some providers make it out to be. I have found in my experience with providers who demand pre-booking are way over-priced and are usually 'high maintenance' jobs. In other words, they are high risk with little in return. Skip those, too.

Where does that leave you? Slim pickings.

One of the best methods to assure yourself that a provider that you are going to meet is to meet up with her at a coffee shop that is near the place you are having the session at. This method will help you do a few things at the same time.

Verify that she is NOT LE
Verify that she is a legit provider and will not upsell
Verify that she's not a nut job
The provider can verify YOU to assure herself that you are not LE
Provider can verify that you are not a nutjob.

In your situation, that may be the best option to go since you have slim choices but higher chance of a LE sting.

Pre booking in advance rules and I would not do it any other way.  Waiting till the last minute sounds like the OP's problem here.  Sounds like he waitied till the last minute and the lady had just gone and gotten food.  It doesn't sound like he's planning meetings.  

I will NOT do last minute meetings because I will not be anybody's second choice or plan B, not in hobby life or my real personal life either!  Demand the best and don't wait till the last minute.

and stop handing out bad advice. In 4 years, I have had to cancel less than a handful of times, and each time was a local appt. not one on tour. Each of those patrons also got their choice of extra time or a discount when I did see them, and I did not "have to" do that.

If you don't pre-book a lady who is highly in demand, you're not going to see her because she is likely only seeing 1 or 2 a day, and will be booked...duh, that's why we pre-book. Helps us weed out dipshits that are not serious to begin with.

I gave him the dakota board because it is the best fit for what he is looking for. People from ND don't hang out on TER, so suggesting he read all the bs is not helping at all...has nothing to do with finding a local provider.

One thing that I have learned in my 12 years in the hobby business is that you will find some providers who demand pre-bookings are usually the greedy and selfish kind.

Why?

Let's say that today was Monday, you contacted a provider to pre-book her for Friday between 2-4 pm. Great, you plan ahead, request time off work and make plans in advance of the appointment.

Friday arrives and you get an email around 12 Noon from that provider who has decided since she did NOT get enough pre-bookings has cancelled the whole visit.

Now, you are stuck with an afternoon of nothing to do! So, what do you do? You go hunting on Backpage hoping to find someone that can accommodate a last minute appointment so that your Friday afternoon is not ruined by a provider who promised you an appointment only to back out at the last minute.

That happened to me one time many years ago.

In my book, that provider should NEVER get any more business after that. I would write up that provider and how she did a No Show due to lack of pre-bookings. I would detail all the planning I did prior to this and then got screwed. That provider who did that to me? She was out of business within 2 months after a number of guys saw my postings on her and stopped going.

After that incident... I vowed... NO more pre-bookings.

If I feel you are not giving me enough notice, I am not going to tell you to be somewhere and then have you waiting around on me....I will simply say, "I am sorry, but I need more notice." It's not your fault, and it's not theirs. Each of us has a certain schedule that we can or will work with, and finding a common ground is essential. Guys looking for last minute appts. and bargain basement rates, know not to contact certain providers and vice versa. I might add that 3 hours is not enough time to check references unless they are like me and live on the internet or with their Blackberry up their ass lol.

It does not sound as if the women you are seeing are doing much screening?

or at least she should. Guys KNOW UPFRONT if she does not get enough bookings that she is not making the trip to begin with, so he already has the chance to book a plan B a week before that happens. Please stop giving out bad advice, because you're a fool to think greed has anything to do with pre-bookings! It is called COMMON SENSE to cover your damn hotel and airfare...not greed! No one in their right mind is going to spend 1500 to go make 8...gosh, ignorance never ceases with some people here. Would you go to work knowing you just spent 2k and were only going to make half of that back? Gimme a damn break! That's called STUPID and someone with no clue as to how a business works. A provider needing to pay her bills is greedy? I have heard it all lol.

Unlike YOU, I am sure this guy does not demand providers take the donation after, meet them at a Wendy's, and all the other asanine bs you toss around here. I don't think his pre-booking will turn out the way yours did, because he is not the common asshole. If women are cancelling on YOU last minute, it says more about you than it does about them ha ha. Maybe they saw your handle somewhere, and got scared you were a stalker or a rip off? HMM.

I know a week prior to a trip if I am going for sure or not, and every guy who contacts me is told "not to plan 100 percent" until my flight is booked. Call me a pro. I have never even cancelled a local appt. last minute, much less one where a guy books in advance in another city...sounds as if you're getting exactly what YOU put out.

I have only been doing this for a couple months and really only had a handful of appointments even booked.  I have reviewed two who come to my area and I have actually been able to meet up with.  There are no local providers that routinely post on BP or dakotaboard after I checked them out.  I don't have the the options or choices you think I have.  You can count on one hand the number of providers in my city at any time and I have yet to see a touring one that pre books actually make it.  Called and scheduled one and they canceled the trip the week prior.    The dakotaboard has helped since there are more reviews of providers there than on here so that is a good resource.

More info so you can get a better idea of what I have as choices:
I am closed to Grand Forks, ND and there are maybe 3 to 7 posts on BP per day with most providers staying in town 2 to 4 days.  They never post anything until they are already in town so not even possible to book ahead more than 1 day.  Sometimes they even leave after posting for that day and are in another city by the afternoon if they post in the morning.  I have only seen one girl in two months that has even returned to the city so it doesn't look like there is much of a chance to find a favorite and just wait for them to come every so often.

By searching phone numbers since nobody has a review, I have to play it cautious.   I can tell most come for the Minneapolis area by the phone numbers they have and what trail that number leaving by searching.  I am guessing they are either independent or sent by someone from there to hang out here a couple day or make a Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, and BismarcK loop before heading home.   That is the most common thing I found doing searches.  I get the feeling that there are more than one provider traveling together and sharing a room when they come since there are lots of 2 for 1 specials etc. on the boards as well.

I guess I will just have to live with missed appointments unless I can find a regular.  My options are limited and so is screening etc.  Do I need to just take the hobby to Winnipeg and the Cities so I know what I am getting?  Is backpage with no track records just rolling the dice for when I get robbed or caught in a sting?

Obviously you are in one of those provider barron areas, and your best bet may be to save up your money and take a hobby vacation every so often to Winnipeg or Minneapolis or another city.

Backpage with no track record is definitely rolling the dice. How much of a gambler are you? You might find a diamond in the rough, or you might end up in jail, or robbed or beaten. If you go the backpage route, definitely do as much research as you can (seems like you are trying to do that).

I think taking your hobby to a nearby bigger city is the best thing to do, but you can still keep your eyes open on the ads and keep doing research, as you might end up finding a highly reviewed gal coming through your area on tour occasionally.

Even though I live in a big city, it did take me a while to find a few providers that I can trust 100% completely. It's a LONG and sometimes painful process that all hobbyists go through.

You are not alone in your quest to be safe and find a few good providers in your area.

You *could* go to another big city, but there's no guarantee that you won't get robbed or beaten there either.

I'd save your gas money and spend that extra time to do the best job finding those few lucky ladies that will appreciate you.

Do NOT rush and take your time to look for local ladies in your area.

Have you considered checking out the Native Americans that live around your area? Surely there are some that do providing.
