It IS possible to contract an STD from BBBJ. The most likely (but not exclusive) STD you can get this way is genital herpes.

But will you actually GET it?

According to Planned Parenthood, depending on where you are in the country, the rates are 20-25% of people (both male and female) have genital herpes. This wouldn't be transferred via BBBJ unless the person somehow had gotten it in the mouth, most likely from giving a BBBJ so someone who had it.

There are two schools of thought about the risk of such things with providers.

The first is that providers are about 1000 times more aware of STDs than the general public and hyper-vigilant; and thus much less likely than the average person to contract an STD. So you are probably safer with a provider than with a girl you picked up in a bar.

The second is that, in spite of increased vigilance and knowledge, sheer numbers work against the provider who may contract an STD without even knowing.

I tend more toward the first school of thought, personally; though this is a very case-by-case thing. I certainly wouldn't apply it to all providers; but would with the better ones.

The reason for that is a matter of odds and demographics. STDs -- like it or not -- tend to be more common in impoverished populations. Providers are essentially unavailable to those populations. Much, though not all, of their clientèle comes from married men whose only partners other than providers (who are hypervigilant about STDs) have been their wives. These tend to be older males, generally 40+.

Now -- that is just MY thinking; and my thinking is about probabilities. I think you are safer with a provider than a girl from a bar; but that safety is relative, not absolute. Any form of intimate contact whatsoever, even breathing the same air much less kissing or anything else, has a potential to spread something -- even if it is just a head cold.

If you are concerned about STDs transferred via bbbj; use a condom. Lots of places sell flavored condoms that will make that more pleasant for the provider. Putting a couple of drops of water in the end of the condom before slipping it on improves sensation.

A condom, it should be noted, reduces your likelihood of contracting something; but doesn't completely eliminate the risks.

The only way to entirely eliminate risks is to abstain.
