I need help. As a new hobbyist I found an ad on craigslist for a very attractive provider. I emailed her for information and she stated that I needed to book her through her "agency". It is a website that offers a $1 membership fee for the first day, then automatically renews for a full membership after that. So I signed up, emailed the provider back saying that I had signed up, now what? and she emailed me back asking for my username on the site and my confirmation number of my order. Before sending her that info i just wanted to see if anyone knew whether this was some sort of scam or pretty common practice. She said that the signup was to check me against a registered sex offender list and to check to see if I were a cop. Does that sound about right? I have tried to see if there is a way, with my username and con# that she could get a hold of my credit card info but I haven't foud a way. Is this sort of thing legit? Any help would be appreciated.....thanks

Since you didn't post a link to the site you were referring to, I can't categorically say it's a scam... however, it sounds fishy...

It's a scam. No legitimate indy or agency is going to charge you for info. Resign from this site NOW before you get charged anything else...if it isn't already too late. My advice is to stay the heck off of CL until your BS radar is a bit better.

I've run into this several times and you probably will too.  Don't ever sign up for stuff like this.  Always a scam.

cancel your credit card & ask for a replacement card with a new # ... that way you are protected from possible fraud...
