END OF MESSAGE

Is there anywhere on the net I can order a pay as you go phone, without giving personal information?  I don't want to use my personal number for hobbying.

You can buy one at almost any 7-11, adn the card to refill the time

you can also get a phone and airtime refills at either Wal-Mart,Big Lots, CVS or Family Dollar (depending on where you live).

thanks for the help.  if you go to one of those places to buy a prepaid phone, do they ask for id to link the prepaid phone to buy to your name? or can you just pay in cash?

if i ordered somethign off the net, i dont mind paying with credit card, i just don't want my name linked to the phone or the phone number.  thats it in case the phone gets stolen, or something bad like that etc.

You can pay for the phone in cash, and no they don't ask for ID at those stores.

How do you expect to order a phone without providing a name, a shipping address and the particulars of your payment (e.g., credit or debit card, PayPal)?

how about the t-mobile brand phones , do all brands of prepaid phones not keep any personal info on you?

I bought a prepaid phone to use as a hobby phone from a T-Mobile store for $20 (cash). I was asked for my name; I had a fake name already made up which I gave in response to the request. I wasn't asked for ID to verify the name. The only other info I remember being asked for was a four-digit PIN to be used when contacting customer service.

Get one yourself at Best Buy, Target, Walmart ANYWHERE!

When you register the phone online, use the name you want and your hobby e-mail address.

I use my phone constantly for work and only have stored people I truly call frequently. Obviously a provider would not be stored. Trying to sort through all the calls would certainly give somebody a hobby (no pun intended)!
So, wouldn't it be much harder to explain a new phone that got found than a random call here and there?

A married guy having a hobby phone seems like a big problem to me. If you leave the phone at the office, then what good is it? How would I make appointments on the weekend, for example, or after work? In either case, the hobby hone will end up coming home with me, and now I have to hide it... I don't know how I would explain an extra phone in my briefcase, of in the trunk of my car. Imagine the family is in the car, and the hobby phone rings because you forgot to turn it off! A strange ringer that no one has ever heard before..

I use my phone for work, and each month there are literally hundreds of calls to and from my phone. Sure, a dedicated investigator might be able to find a suspicious number, but not a spouse on a random scan.

It's easier for me to hide in plain sight, than to try to stay on top of a second phone. The only thing I would need to worry about would be a text message sent to my phone while I was not in possession of it. I don't want incriminating text to scroll across the screen...

but since I am retired & SO has access to cell records (family plan)...  records of unknown calls would stick out & could be fatal.
I don't hobby all the time & I have a place to secure the hobby phone.  No one will be calling me back if I don't place calls & tell them to call...  which I only do if a date is in the works.
I clear the call in & out of the hobby phone & then turn the sucker OFF...  until next time.

Don't text...  ask Tiger why!

I have been using a pre-paid phone from t-mobile, but it's a hassle to use for texting, which my fav lady likes.  So, I used my personal phone.  Bad mistake.

The phone company keeps track of all the numbers and it is relatively easy to search for that phone on the internet.  Couple the phone number with the remote location (las vegas) and there's instant incrimination.

Granted, it would have to take the suspicion to start looking in the first place, but given the stakes, complete, total discreetness is imperative, imho.

So, I understand the 'hide in plain sight' rationale, it doesnt' work for me.  Those numbers will now sit on the phone bills forever, mute testimony to your activities.

I now have aquired a t-mob phone from costco, with 1000 minutes, each about $100.  The minutes last a year or more, so all it takes now is keeping that phone hidden.  Remember to erase all phone call logs, in case someone does pry.

Just check out Tiger's texting problem, and John Edwards mistress problem.  Both were careless in basic discretion, particularly Edwards, to the point of rank stupidity.
