Was with a fairly new proveder last week enjoying some doggie, when all of a sudden things felt different.  I pulled right out, and discovered the condom had broken.  She didn't seem too concerned, replaced it with a fresh one and we finished up.  

Anyone have an idea what the exposure risk is for that short of a period of time.  I'm thinking I'll get tested for my piece of mind.  Should I get tested right away, or would the results be more accurate if i wait a few days?

Any thoughts??

If you saw her last week, I think you've already waited a few days. If it were me, I would go as soon as possible. If you need to come back again later, the doctor should let you know.

Just for future reference, you can and should get tested right away. You can also start taking meds right away, but the docs will tell you, "You're going to be sick as a dog, but I'll give them to you if you want." I haven't taken the meds, but know some who have, and the docs were right about feeling bad. (The exposures I'm talking about weren't related to the hobby.)

If it were me I would get tested right away, just for peace of mind if nothing else.

What medications are you talking about?  General meds for the common STDs are just general antibiotics and they won't make you sick.  Even more powerful meds like Cipro won't.

AIDS/HIV antivirals

I'm surprised that she was so nonchalant about it.  I would have stopped, washed, made you wash, and then (if I'm still in the mood) continued.  Then I'd cancel all my appointments (more for mental reasons that fear of disease), make a doctor's appointment, and cross my fingers.  

Overreaction?  Maybe, but it's not something that happens often.  I've never broken one yet.

For most STD's it would be wise to get tested right away. However, if you are only going to get a test for HIV then if would be wise to wait anywhere from at least 3 to 6 months. The reason for this is because the antibodies for HIV does not show up in the test results before that time period. It shows up after (if any, otherwise the test would be negative). I always get an HIV test at least every 6 months (my preference) to make sure the test is accurate. Many doctors will tell you the same thing just like my doctor did. Getting tested two weeks after the fact unfortunately means very little for HIV.  For 97% of the population, it will take up to 6 months for the HIV antibodies to be detectable in an HIV test.  And yes, you will still be infected and potentially spreading the disease during that time (even though it's undetectable).  That being said, condoms do break and it's not the end of the world.  Everything will probably be fine.

I've worked in hospitals for YEARS and have known hundreds of Drs.  NONE of them would provide AIDS medicatios right off the bat.  If you know of a physician who is, RUN.  They are hacks.
